Visited today with korhoen and vogelcommando. A very enjoyable visit

Here are some news bits:
- I'll cut to the chase, we visited the Mangrove. Though still quite barren (to be expected as it's brand new) we were all immensely satisfied with the exhibit. The theming is just enough to make it feel authentic but it's not in your face, something I've always found Burgers' handles well. The species list, though small, fits the ecodisplay perfectly and we all loved the exhibit design and areas for the animals. For myself the main event was the manatees. Seeing them underwater is something you have to do for yourself, it's truly satisfying that after 30 years they're visible like that at long last. The full species list for Mangrove can be found in the free ranging Burgers' Bush species thread, but I'll put it at the bottom of this post for good measure. The jellyfish aren't there yet.
- Red kites now living with the European black vultures.
- Chimps were split in three groups; Jimmie and Roos in one, Fons, Giambo, Ghineau, Moniek, Gaby, Tesua, Morami, Moni and Raimee in another, and Jing, Tushi, Erika and Geisha offshow in introductions I believe.
- Beisa oryx are mixed with the Safari animals and are doing well.
- Saw 21/37 of the bird species in Bush. Sadly still missing the catbirds, chacalacas and leafbird for my lifers list.
- Saw 11/11 of the bird species in Desert, plus some very active ringtails.
- Pygmy hippo was outside for the first time in ages, she's really starting to show her age.
- Nine sharks in the Ocean tank; five blacktip reefs, one blacktip, two leopard and one scalloped hammerhead.
- Saw the jackal puppies, never realised there were so many jackals!! Including the babies we counted seven or eight.
