After contacting Moscow Zoo on the subject of their baby gorilla born last year, it appears that it has passed away as they said currently the youngest in the group is Ama, born there in 2013

The latest offspring of Lena and the late Harry at Dublin Zoo is a male and has been named Kitoko.

Female Kisiwa moved from Apenheul to Beekse Bergen this week to become a breeding female in the group governed by young male Komale, which was formed last year. Her five year old daughter Chama will be left behind, but never really got on too well with her mother, so has been taken under the wing of Kisiwa's full sister Gyasi.

Both of Duisburg's babies from last year are girls; the older one is called Muenda and the younger one is called June.

Some of this very lengthy and comprehensive document makes for interesting reading. I think a number of the sections contain data that has been collated from past publications e.g. the data on fertility treatment and treatment with drugs for aggressive behaviour seemingly both come from situations at Bristol zoo that occurred ten years or more ago now, while the history of bachelor groups at Paignton and others also stops well short of the present day situation.

I noted also that EEP intends to restrict the European population to 500 individuals, which may mean further restrictions now on breeding from genetically well-represented animals in many groups.

KIBARA (* at Leipzig Zoo 2005, GORGO x VIRINGIKA) at Leipzig Zoo gave birth to her second offspring yesterday night. Sire is ABEEKU.

Kibara's baby is a female and got the name Kianga today.

Kumili (in the same group) is also confirmed pregnant and due later in the year

A silly question maybe, but why are so many gorillas given names beginning with 'K'? Perhaps it's just me noticing them more. For a while there were 4 at Paignton - Kumbuka, Kivu, Kiondo and Kiri - making it more of a struggle to ID them somehow.

Hasn't been mentioned here but Dian at Frankfurt gave birth to twins again a month or so ago. As is generally expected one of the twins died so Dian now just has the one kid.

This is the second consecutive birth where Dian has produced twins. The surviving baby was removed from her initially and then when deemed stronger returned to her after a week or two, and she is now looking after it normally so far. It is female. There seems to be a potential problem with young male Quembo being over-interested in the babies in the group, and trying to snatch them, which seems a common behaviour in some Zoo groups nowadays.

Blackpool- baby born on Tuesday 5th September to Miliki & Bukavu. Sex unknown to date. This is Miliki's second baby at Blackpool but with a long birth interval of seven years since her first Meisie was born in May 2010.

Taronga Park( EEP gorillas) male baby born 1st September, mother Mbeli.

Have not updated this thread in many months so some other recent births are no doubt missing.

Any Gorilla moves ,baby's or deaths latley. Has new male been sourced for Dublin yet. Has Mayani been moved or got a new zoo found yet if so what one. I think Bristol would be a good choice.

Mayani arrived in Antwerp last week. They will not be putting a new male in for the foreseeable whilst Vana and Tebo get adjusted still.
