Matriarch Thi Hi Way gave birth in the early hours of the morning today.
Herd is now 9-Strong. Largest Asian Herd in the country.

Could I see some of these posts as context I’m not seeing anything suggesting an elephant birth and it’s never been reported that Thai was pregnant, unless this is old news.
 
When was the baby boy born? Can't find the date anywhere. According to the zoo's Facebook page Asha and her baby are going outside already, so the baby might be a few weeks old.

If this is true (hopefully) Nandita would only have just turned 12 months old when Thai got pregnant. Although Thai did produce 3 calves between 1993 - 1997 and did not raise the 1st 2 ( 0:1 killed at birth,0:1 hand reared died aged 2, Sithami reared by Thai with help from Sheba) so not impossible, be nice if there is a new addition

Not necessarily: if everything goes well and the weather is good, they will let the baby outside on the first day - I was lucky enough to see Indali at less than 18 hours old (on a mild day in December). It also lets the keepers clean up inside.
There are photos on Facebook of the new calf in the paddock today.

As far as we are concerned the elephant calf is a hoax / ghost report. Let it rest please.
Let us be equally and very glad for anothe Indian rhino calf.

Fair point, taken 5 years for Beni and Asha to have their 2nd calf. Out of interest how many breeding Indian rhinos are there in Britain ?

The only others in the UK that are currently breeding are the Whipsnade trio, but there are plenty in Europe.
 
Potential in the UK is Bewdley - West Midlands and that is now a real possibility with the moves a few seasons back (September 2015).

As far as Whipsnade, I heard a mumble that one of the Indian rhino females there is no longer breeding (but I am really not sure what to make of that).

I saw a facebook post from a friend saying she saw "baby" rhino and elephant yesterday. I've also seen a photo on instagram (I think) dated y/day and showing a very young elephant calf.

So was an elephant calf born y/day?
