Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoological Gardens in 2018

Visited today 23/06/2018 not a lot to add to other peoples comments but did notice the following -

NO frilled Lizards in the reptile house were are they the exhibit had a adult Rhinoceros Iguana in it
Also the old Aviary by the Ballroom over priced cafe as a Mollucan Cockatoo in it again no signage

Also what's happened to the Toco Toucan again no signage anywhere for this species they were going to breed with a partner coming in to the zoo last year.

Update this years button voting shows the Bears are out in front.

It was there on my last visit I'm sure have to check my photographs on the other hand there were no Waldrapp around either today and I wasn't the only one to notice as a gentleman said he hadn't seen them on his last two visits

Toco Toucan was there on the 14th October 2017 as I have photographs of him/her in the end aviary by the Kangaroo exhibit now.

Did notice yesterday on my visit how down hearted the staff (every staff member seen that is) looked, they didn't answer questions from the visitors in fact they ignored many by just walking away.

the whole of the zoo looked a bit scruffy even the Tecton Buildings that had been refurbished just a couple of years ago looked like they hadn't been wiped/cleaned in quite a while.

It'a all good and well having these new exhibits and new refurbishments going on to get the media attention but if you allow the rest of the zoo to look shall we say a little scruffy (just to be polite) then it's that part that people will remember.

On a good point the Snow Leopard exhibit does look better but I wouldn't go overboard about it.
The Binurong exhibit well all I say s it's a cage with a few things in it, why didn't they use the bank at the back?

The new aviary for the Scarlet Macaws well it's a fare size but they may as well have put a brick wall up all around it as that wire cage is bloody stupid.

For the first time since the 80's I actually left the collection wondering what is going to happen next will it still be here in ten years time in fact it reminded me of the way the zoo went in the 80's

Lets see what happens but please STOP trying to please the media and get on with looking after the rest of the zoo.

When I last visited during the Easter break I had a very different visit. I did the tiger feeding experience and the keeper was delightful - friendly, happy, telling us all sorts of things about the developments of the zoo. One interesting thing she pointed out was something I'd never really thought of before: because the zoo is a site of historical importance, there are a whole load more hurdles to jump over before they can actually do any work there. This makes developments even more complicated and costly than they usually are, and something most zoos do not have to deal with. All the other keepers we came across on that day (which was extremely busy) were polite and cheerful. Although I didn't stop and speak to them, some were talking with other members of the public.

I've noticed a slow backward move with the zoo over the past 2 years and yesterday many members of staff were very young so may not have been full time staff but it still gives a poor impression when they ignore members of the public,
Yes I understand the history of the place and how difficult it is to get planning permission on the site but just the basics would be an improvement and it's the summer season so why no tidy up.
It's a pity the so called funding after the Tecton building in the Bear Ravine didn't materialise English Heritage £? million if my memory serves me correct or was this just another media gimmic from the then new management.
I have visited the zoo for over 40 years and can clearly say that it is not moving forward as expected but in many cases going back to the bad old days.
Sorry but this is how I felt when I left the collection 23/06/2018

I think at long last some of the Dudley regulars, are waking up and seeing what I have been saying for over 2 years. The current management have no clue bring back Mr Suddock, because atlest it was going forward under him!!!

Inca, the oldest Asiatic black bear on zoo records worldwide, has recently sailed through her annual health check. Apparently, the hot weather is good for her joints and she has been very active recently - I think if I was wearing a thick fur coat like that it would have the opposite effect!

It's always a heart stopping moment when an article is about Inca, fortunately this is great news and long may she continue thriving! :D

Toco Toucan no longer at the collection it passed away last year this according to ZIMS now leaves just Birdworld - Farnham & Paignton Zoo as the only collections holding the species.
Yet Zootierlist say there are more so if people out there now of any others please could you add info on there locations.

Incorrect, your sudden mysterious access to ZIMS hasn’t taken into account that multiple places do not have membership to it!

I've not got access to ZIMS but know someone who has through the bird sales I attend,
I never said I had access to ZIMS so why did you state that i had mysteriously gained access.

OK so still looking for collections that have Toco Toucans in the UK please.

Never mind not worth falling out over but still looking for toco toucan locations.

Now they have got the Yellow Mongoose out of the collection would it be nice to see them bring in some Dwarf Mongoose in to the collection.

Will they now realise that the Orangutan House and outside exhibit should be there number one priority over anything else.

The four black lemurs have moved into a new enclosure opposite the chimps, on the site of the former red squirrel enclosure. It looks impressive and much better than their previous accommodation in lemur wood. The article mentions that some of the red squirrels were successfully released back into the wild in Denbighshire earlier this year.

I wonder if we should assume the Prevost's Squirrels aren't coming then.
