Birds:

(Note: this isn’t from today but I’ve just remembered I have split Torresian Kingfisher on my list from when I saw it two years ago so I’m splitting it here. I’m not, however, splitting ‘Sandstone’ and ‘Hornbill’ Friarbird which is Helmeted Friarbird from the Top End and FNQ respectively which I think is split by one of the lists now, but if I remember correctly from a while ago is totally unjustified? I’m not quite willing to sink that low for a tick :D)

658) Torresian Kingfisher
659) Sandstone Shrike-thrush
660) Grey-crowned Babbler
661) Rufous Whistler
662) Crimson Finch

I doubled again so Ring-tailed Dragon should have actually been 23, which means:

Reptiles
24. Bull Skink (Liopholis multiscutata)

Birds (non-passerines)
321. Emu

Birds (passerines)
322. Splendid Fairy-wren
323. Western Bristlebird

That'd probably be Phil Gregory's list?

Obviously, I'm not seeing all the myriad animals that everyone else is currently seeing in Asia but at least with the overpowering heat and humidity and the extremely overgrown pathways here in Essex I can at times pretend I'm in the tropics.

Over the past few days, I've identified three new birds, three new fish and nine new invertebrates for my year list:

103. Eurasian hobby Falco subbuteo
104. Common kingfisher Alcedo atthis
105. Eurasian bullfinch Pyrrhula pyrrhula

4. Common rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus
5. European chub Squalius cephalus
6. Brown trout Salmo trutta *

51. Common red soldier beetle Rhagonycha fulva
52. Meadow grasshopper Chorthippus parallelus
53. Field grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus
54. Green dock beetle Gastrophysa viridula
55. Emperor dragonfly Anax imperator
56. Notch-horned cleg Haematopota pluvialis
57. Large white butterfly Pieris brassicae
58. Large red damselfly Pyrrhosoma nymphula
59. Lucerne bug Adelphocoris lineolatus

* I believe this species is the result of a reintroduction project by the local 'Museum of Power' from many years ago

Added one new bird, two new mammals and a couple of invertebrates to my year list over the past few days. Mammal number ten is probably going to be my highlight of the year - my best sighting of the species in the wild and definitely missing the World Cup semi-final match to see.

106. Tawny owl Strix aluco

9. Bank vole Myodes glareolus
10. Eurasian otter Lutra lutra (Nt)

60. Gatekeeper butterfly Pyronia tithonus
61. Marmalade hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus

Birds
30. Oriental Magpie Robin
31. Lesser Flameback

32. Zebra Dove

Mammals
5. Long tailed Macaque

That'd probably be Phil Gregory's list?

It is indeed! I believe the rationale for his splits are generally trying to make the Australian bird list as high as possible.

I seem to recall it being accepted on one of the main international lists too, though I may be wrong there.
