I have just been checking out the drawings. I assume they are just imaginary and reflect, in no way, what is planned.

If they are what is intended, what is going in the enclosure with the abandoned and beached trawler?

Are you referring to the image with the flying birds? That will be a display arena!
 
I can not find the picture again. I don't remember flying birds but I do recall what looked like jets of water.
It will become less sketchy when the planning applications go in. I am interested to see what they look like.
 
Just wondering how the surrounding zoos would feel about another competing zoo. Chester zoo relies on the population of Greater Manchester to support it which is probably why it is one of the UK’s most visited zoos
 
I made a list of the confirmed species which will be hosted in the zoo:

Collared lemur
Fossa
Wagner's gerbil
Mountain hare
African penguin
Red-breasted goose
Black-headed lapwing
White tree frog
Madagascan killifish
Pancake slug
Laos forest scorpion

Part of me really wishes this thread could be locked until there is something solid to talk about; there are many fantasy threads already and existing zoo threads 'spoiled' to some extent (imho) by speculation and non zoo related chat :D

I'd agree with this, I'm not sure that planning permissions has been submitted/granted let alone ground being broken. Speculation at this point seems, at best, premature and, at worst, pointless - does anyone now remember the "multi-million pound wildlife attraction set for Cuningar Loop" that was trumpeted about six years ago?

I could but I look at it in the hope that there's some solid news about the project moving forward rather than statements about what species they may be keeping in some fairly distant future (which could completely change by the time the place is built and/or open to the public). Maybe I'm just having a picky day:).
 
Manchester Zoo have sent their Skunk (Cecil) to Longleat on loan after their individual passed away.

I think it would have been more appropriate to post the information in the Longleat thread, as some of us have been advised to ignore this one and would therefore would have missed the news if we have followed said advice and obviously, Longleat is an actual existing place to visit. :D

Good point.

I think this underlines why some of us take a slightly cynical view of this project.

There is an existing entity which does school talks and the like with live animals.

No problem.

They want to develop into a public collection in the Manchester area.

Great. Another zoo in the North West would be good.

But go on to their website and it's as though they are a lot further forward - from memory they refer to "Manchester Zoo" in the present tense. And puffing something up in this way is bound to be met with scepticism.
