Definitely the sort of thing to finally get me to visit SlimbridgeI was very impressed, many people miss the Amphibian talks at Slimbridge but they bring out a few species from the many behind the scenes to show an audience, which is how I saw the Natterjack Toad, Fire Salamander and Common Midwife Toad![]()

I accidentally counted the horned frog twice - but, in turn, I forgot the African dwarf clawed frog, Hymenochirus boettgeri, from Bronx, so my overall total to date is the same.Bergen County Zoo 6/6/19

A little bit of news from the Slimbridge amphibians Instagram page that may be of interest - as part of the 'Spring to Life' event at Slimbridge, ten extra pop-up enclosures for amphibians will be on display from 25th May to 9th June. Among the species mentioned are Amazon milk frogs, Anatolian newts and fire salamanders, with smooth newts also signed in the photographs.
Amphibians Jay Redbond on Instagram: “Pop up Spring to Life exhibits are up, we have an extra 10 enclosures. They will be on display from today until the 9th June. You can see…”
Seeing as we're over a quarter of the way into the year I suppose it's time we see where everyone's at:

Yesterday I went to Amersfoort and had there several highlights but also some disapointments.
First I went to an aquarium-shop and found there 1 single amphiabian-species - however a possible Lifer ! If I should believe Zootierliste there is not a single zoo I've visited keeping it in the time of my visits and maybe I have seen it before in the trade but that would then be more then 30 years ago and to be honest, I can't remember ever having seen it. The species I saw was the Sabana surinam toad ( Pipa parva ) and because there was sofar only a single photo of this species in our Gallary I have added 2 more ( in the Netherlands - other Gallery )

For the Challenge it of course doesn't count but evenso I was very happy with this beginning of the day ( next to this toad I had - I guess - 20 - 30 - more lifers at this shop, mainly fish.
Then I went to the Zoo ( Dierenpark ) and had hoped to see at least 5 species new for the Challenge and thus went to the 100.000 dieren huis ( = 100-000 animals house ). Next to the 2 species I can add, I had hoped to see the Himalayan newt - Tylototriton verrucosus and a still unidentified frog-species ( "Bamboo frog") but found their enclose was become home to a new species - the Crocodile-tailed lizard. A nice species but not for this Challenge.....
Then I went to the Norturnal House because here Kaiser's spotted newt ( would be new for my Challenge ) and Ticitaca water frogs ( already seen this year but behind the scenes at Rotterdam Zoo where they didn't counted ). In front of the Nocturnal House I however found this sign :

( meaning " "The Night" is being renovated. From mid-June you can see our nocturnal animals again" ).
The only other amphibian species kept at Amersfoort is the Natterjack toad and I indeed saw it but had already seen it before this year at another collection.
Altogether just only 2 new species for the Challenge :
26 - Golden mantella - Mantella aurantiaca

27 - Oriental fire-bellied newt - Hypselotriton orientalis :

15. Hellbender Cryptobranchus alleganiensis
16. Eastern Tiger Salamander Ambystoma tigrinum

I picked up a few more species at Currumbin today. Unfortunately (and rather frustratingly) I didn’t see any species at the ’Frog Conservation and Research Facility’ due to poor viewing (foggy windows).Walkabout Creek Nature Centre 2/1/19
1. Green Tree Frog (Litoria caerulea)
2. White-lipped Frog (Litoria infrafrenata)
I predict I’ll probably get under ten species this year. There aren’t many local zoos/aquaria that display many amphibians (bar maybe Currumbin).
