North American Asian Elephant Population

Houston's 1-year-old Joy was diagnosed with--and has survived--EEHV. This is wonderful, especially after the sobering news that the virus killed two young Africans in Indianapolis, confirming that both species are susceptible to the virus. There have been a few other Asian calves to survive EEHV, but far too many who have not.

Joy is the daughter of wild-born Thailand and Shanti, who is the daughter of the late Onyx and NZP's Bozie. My uploads continue to be rejected for being "too large," so this citation is the best I can do:

"Joy to the World: Asian Elephant Completes Successful Treatment for Deadly Disease," Click2Houston, 4/19/19.

Is Indy still alive and well at Dickerson? It's strange that neither article mentions him. At least Moola is alluded to in the second article.

Endangered Ark seems to be the not-for-profit arm of Carson and Barnes Circus. Their elephants are related.

I was thinking of the notoriously aggressive Patience when I wrote the above comment. Fixed it.

Now I'm even more confused lol. Why would they separate an aggressive Patience from her longtime companion to put her with a young male calf? If she's this feisty, maybe they should put Hugo with Moola and have Patience spend some time with Indy lol. She'll have met her match.

1.0 Hugo has been transported from Endangered Ark Foundation to Dickerson Park Zoo.

On a related note, what's the relationship between Carson & Barnes Circus and the Endagered Ark Foundation? Are they the same facility, being both in Hugo, Oklahoma?

(Also, I just realized this was my 666th post....)
EDIT: In truth, Hugo came from Carson & Barnes Circus, which is technically a separate entity as AmikaFan stated.

This is the first time Endangered Ark has joined in an SSP decision. Since he was not sent to Denver's bachelor herd, I hope this means there are plans to make it a breeding institution again. Get two young females in there soon to utilize Indy's wild-born genes, and then Hugo will be there to breed any offspring. Just like the plan in OKC. Bring on the girls!

I've been adding the three new additions and subtracted Jake and Chuck's departure, and it doesn't up add that they could have the herd of 16 claimed on the news. Two are missing. I found one; in Elephant Enthusiast's initial breakdown on this thread, Kitty is missing. Did she did or move to another facility? There's still one more that must no longer be there because I still count 17:

Nelly. Rose. Piccolo. Emily
Hannah. Luna. Lilly. Maggie
Gigi. Onyx. Natasha. Jenny
Anna May. Sunita. Opal. Johnson
George

What happened to Kitty? And who on this list is no longer there? And why?
