My very first visit to this collection (26 03 2019) so was a little intrigued to see what they had got species wise, even though I had checked ZTL beforehand.

Was a little taken back when I entered the Reception area as they have a shop that leads directly onto the café, you go though both areas before entering the collection with a small exhibit on the right as you go through the first doorway.

The exhibit was of the Pardine Genet I did manage to see one genet it was in the left-hand corner right in the top corner couldn’t get a photograph due to very heavy reflexions on the glass.

In another small room they have some small exhibits with a few mammals & reptiles in these were Northern Tree Shrew, Argentine Tegu this was showing very well under the heater lamp & a small tanks with Rudd, Goldfish and another.

Now for a couple of Zoo Lifers for me both in a corner of the collection that could easily be missed if you were with children, Tayra have 3 exhibits 2 quite bright and open and the 3rd rather much darker the pair were very active so tried to get a couple of pics.

The other Lifer was Cuban Hutia both very active but again I did struggle to get any good pic’s due to reflexions, these had 2 exhibits one outside with climbing logs and a indoor one pretty dark again with climbing logs.

Like most collections these days they did have the Children’s favourite Meerkat 2 Exhibits.

Before I go any further would like to say a massive well done to staff and management for putting so much effort in to making the place a look and learn collection very good information everywhere you looked and great exhibits even of the standing still bits the Shark barn (as I call it) was great and the Dinosaur Aquarium was I shall I put this out of this world with the way you had managed to make it look like the species were in tanks with the aid of technology.

My only let down today was the Virginia Opossum & American Beaver I didn’t see one today but will be back shortly to try and catch it out soon and the Striped Skunk.

The Giant wood-rail 3 birds in the exhibit today and a very good sized one to say the least really liked it.

Both species of Racoon were very visible even though the one was lying down and looked to be set for the day.

They have a few paddocks around the collection and these hold some nice species which include Fallow Deer, Chapman’s Zebra, one empty small paddock, Llama & Patagonian Mara & Bactrain Camel

They do have a couple of Owl species at the back of the Go Kart play area these are African Spotted Eagle Owl and a pair of Great Grey Owls.

They do have other species spotted around the collection but not that many really, they do have both Emu and Greater Rhea.

This collection does have quite a large amount of ground unused and with a bit of a push I really think this place could be something special

Will add a Species seen list shortly and will put directions in the right thread.

They had one in an exhibit round the back very large looking animal and a second much further round and a much smaller specimen than the other I may be wrong,
Just checked they are the same species but have different names one says common raccoon the other says north American raccoon just had it checked by my friend who came with us today.
Confused I will be me thinks
Thanks for pointing this out TLD.

I had no idea this collection even existed... And it's on my way to/from university. Looks like I've found myself a new stop off point :)

Have now found a second sign for the American Beaver a picture sign and not a small white backed one will be putting photo's on shortly including exhibits as well as species.

Early in June I visited this collection for the first time.

I enjoyed my visit but, despite returning to the golden jackal exhibit numerous times and waiting patiently for a very long while, I never managed to see a golden jackal.

I intend to return later this summer, specifically to see the jackals; I wondered if any ZooChatters have been successful in seeing this species at All Things Wild yet.

I was successful in seeing the jackals indoors! :)

Are they in the exhibit at the back of the collection as when I visited earlier this year they were doing this exhibit up.
Will have to visit again very soon as it's very close to the rail station makes it easy to get to.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by the "back of the collection". To repeat, the golden jackal exhibit is close to the zebra paddock.

I agree: its close proximity to the railway station means it is very easy to reach by public transport.

Thanks. I don't think the golden jackals used their outdoor enclosure during my visit; neither could I see them when I looked through the window into their indoor accommodation.

Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

I have a reasonable picture of one of them indoors, and you know where to find it Tim!

Is this collection worth a visit? Looking at trains it'll be a two-hour journey each way for me, but I've never seen golden jackal...
