Antwerps on-show amphibian collection is not very large and next to the Mountain chicken a number of more common species ( Dart frogs, clawed frogs and Amazon milk frogs ) are kept but these I had already all seen earlier this year.
But evenso Antwerp has a name in Amphibian-keeping in the Zoo-world and behind the scenes breeding-programms for species like the Kaiser's spotted newt and Strawberry frogs are very succesfull.
Yesterday I went with my wife, my daughter and my grand-child ( 4 1/2 months old and already his 5th zoo ! ) to Apenheul, a place not very famous for its amphibian-collection !
Only 2 species are kept in the small Nocturnal House but one of them would be new for the Challenge but... I couldn't find it in its enclosure
!So I still can't add the Maranon dart frog - Excidobates mysteriosus to the 2019 list. The other species showed-up very well but this species I had already seen an uncountable times this year at other collections, the Golden dart frog - Dendrobates auratus... ( 3 specimens seen ).

I managed to get a reasonable shot of the species during my own visit last month - I shall have to get it uploaded to the gallery
It is temporal, they ended the exhibiton on October 20th. Its really annoying as you could see amazing species there. They should fastly make nice and permanent exhibiton for them

Last weekend visited several collection in the north of France and at the Paris Zoological Park I found quite a number of Amphibians, a good number of them being new for the Challenge :

Thats indeed one of the species I missed as well as the Majorcan midwife toad and the Pinchincha dart frog but ZTL all mention them as being not seen sofar this year at Paris so maybe they are all kept behind the scenes or not kept anymore at all.
