I'm resurrecting this thread to announce I'm now the proud owner of a 48 year old spur-thighed tortoise named Fred. After not really knowing what to do with him (He was my grandparents...
) we let him wander round the house for a day. Five days in and he now has his own spot by the fire, bathes in the sun from the window, curls up with the dog and cat, and I take him out for an hours exercise on the communal balcony every afternoon. He could well be the best tortoise in the world, and (as far as I can tell) he might be the most content tortoise as well!
Trying to find lettuce for him is currently a bloody nightmare though, the hours I've spent queueing to go into a shop to be confronted with empty vegetable shelves is beyond a joke...
