I do follow this place on facebook so I thought why not make a thread dedicated to this park, which seems to have an amazing collection (for a zoo in Japan). Many of you might have heard of this zoo for breeding pudus in Japan for the first time, and I did share a facebook post, on the Ouwehands thread here, of the park announcing the transfer of a young rhinoceros horn-bill to Ouwehands.

The first news on this thread will be the announcement of the birth of a serrow, which was born on June 17, 15 days later when a pudu was born at the park.

May 05, 1980 the zoo was opened

You can "walk" through the zoo via street view

In 2016 the zoo received 2.2 Pudus (probably for the first time in Japan). On the 9th of february 2017 a young animal was born, but only lived until December 2018.

Any idea when they will be on display? I will visit Japan late in August and might probably consider here.

The others are probably not announced since they were already kept by the zoo before the renovation of the small mammal house.

I believe that's a feather tail glider. It says chibi fukuromomomnga or "tiny sugar glider" under the picture. Also there aren't any mouse lemurs in Japan.

I also saw a post of a southern three banded armadillo in a mixed enclosure with degus in the building.

According to their website, SCZ got two breeding pairs from featherdale wildlife park. The introduction of quokkas is to commemorate the park’s 40th anniversary in May 5th.

That's a rather extraordinary piece of news! If I were to guess at an overseas zoo to receive Quokkas (the only ones currently outside of Australia) I wouldn't have come up with the Saitama Childrens Zoo!

I didn’t see it coming either. But knowing the recent additions of animals that were never kept in Japan before or in a long time, I am not too surprised. It still is a big surprise however.

I guess they are equally rare in Aussie collections, right?
