In other news, Mayombe, the gorilla recently reintroduced to the Gabonese rainforest from the zooparc has been faring well.

The 40th-anniversary photos and videos are really really interesting. I'm having a great time with it!
 
Some news from my thursday visit :

There was a lot of people for a working day. I think between 3.000 and 4.000 !

In the tropical dome :
- just seen one giant otter. It was the same in june. I don't know if there is a problem.
- super glossy starlings and crested partridge are new species free.
- Solomon Islands Skinks are now on show in the Tonkin bug-eyed frogs terrarium. New species for the park.
- Tequelia splitfins and marine tods are on show in the Conservation Camp. New species for the park.
- Coconut crabs are now off display.
- from a friend, it seems that cocqs of the rock are free in the dome but I have not seen them.
- seen well two adult tomistomas. First time I saw two of the three. Seen well too one of the 8 youngs.

In the gorillas greenhouse :
- pearled river stingrays were added to the past manatees pool. New species for the zoo.
- I still havent been able to see the dwarf crocodiles arrived this year but the spectacled caimans are now well in their enclosure. Laying on the beach.

In the Australian greenhouse :
- a single Pesquet Parrot is now in the small aviary at the entrance. Rub...
- the two tree-kangaroo joeys are well visible in their mum's pouch.

In the Birds greenhouse :
- there is still just one giant turacos.
- not seen the male cocq of the rock in the two-toed sloths aviary.
- not seen the toco toucans but were labelled.
- there are some hope that the javan rhinoceros hornbills pair (formed 6/7 years ago) start breeding soon. There is still another javan rhinoceros hornbill but it's an old ladie, mother of the breeding male.

To finish, Akili, the elephant bull, is not arrived yet. It's now a long time since he was expected here. I hope he will come soon now.
 
I simply cannot understand why it is so darn difficult to move a bull African elephant bull - that has been planned for ages to transfer to Beauval - up to road! Since, the transfer in of the UK females nothing exciting has happened ..., we have needlessly lost so much time (the females are not getting any younger, they should be bred by a mature or a proven bull a.s.a.p.!
 
Totally agree with you @Kifaru Bwana.
It sounds strange. Knowing Beauval's owner the problem does not cole from him.
Maybe Peaugres wants to do the best for the bull or, maybe, they just keep him until the end of the good season for an economical point of view. It's not a good reason but it arrive.

Did you see the Cuban Trogon? On my visit the sign was still there, but the trogon was conspiciously absent...

They don't, and never have. However, you are right in the sense that they are heavily invested in the in situ conservation of this species and hence are doing a rather large donation campaign to support Pantanal wildlife given the massive fires that have erupted over there.

BTW: same was said of pangolins! I suppose it is acting upon the ecology of a species and fine-tuning their needs for captive environments. Very challenging, but I am the last to say it cannot be done. Think outside the box, please!
