Does anyone know if the Polar bear cubs are on public view yet? There is one photo possibly of them on the parks facebook page, sitting on grass, but I haven't found anything else to confirm.

I stopped checking their facebook when it became obvious that I wouldn't be able to visit this week
The cub is a result of "natural" mating (and thus not artificial insemination). A fanastic achievement for all zoo the zoo and the panda keepers.
Some minor news to keep the Dutch subforum active!
There's a short article about the panda cub on their website (Pandajong geboren in Ouwehands Dierenpark - Ouwehands Dierenpark). Not that interesting to be honest, but it says that both Wu Wen and the new cub will remain in their den for the next few months, and that the cub will go to China after four years.
Also some other minor news items from facebook:
The Asian Small-clawed Otters (all males) have left the zoo and have been replaced with Coypu (almost certainly a non-breeding group as breeding is illegal in the Netherlands).
The Aldabra Giant Tortoises explored their outdoor yard for the first time about two weeks ago.
The cage around the caiman enclosure is now inhabited with Green Iguanas (presumably the ones already present in Urucu). It represents a significant expansion of their living space, and could offer much better views if the iguanas co-operate!

African elephant-cow Duna is pregnant ! Father of the expected calf is Tusker and the birth-date will be around autumn 2021

Today I visited Ouwehands, and I noticed a few things:
- in the Aviary next to the entrance the golden pheasant was signed, but I only saw 2 chickens.
- They were very busy, building the bonobo exhibit, which will open this autumn.
- The White-naped cranes, which used to live where the bonobos now are going to live, are now in the Aviary next to the aquarium (the one with the vultures) I
- In the Africahouse there now live Nicobar pigeons, who don’t yet have a sign.
- The Noctural house, Urucu and sea-lion show were all closed due to Covid-19, the seal Aviary was closed as well, probably because they were building the bonobo enclosure next to it.
- the mangalitsa pigs now live in the former porcupine enclosure, their old enclosure (next to the bear forest) is empty now.
- In one of the Aviarys next to the elephants there was a sign of salmon-crested cockatoo but I only saw one yellow scarlet macaw.
- the scarlet ibises, which used to live with the American flamingo’s ( next to the Pelicans) don’t live there anymore. They do still live in the Aviary next to Urucu.
- In the ori-House the exhibit of the Mouse deers was being renovated.

A NAME FOR THE PANDA CUB!
The panda cub has a name from today: Fan Xing!
The name was announced during a small private meeting in Ouwehand Zoo with, among others, the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Worldwide, more than 22 thousand votes have been cast. It was a neck and neck race, but Fan Xing was the favorite.
'Fan' is short for Fan Gao, which means Van Gogh in Chinese. Van Gogh is one of the most famous Dutch artists in China. 'Fan' can therefore be seen as a connection with the Netherlands. 'Xing' means star in Chinese which symbolizes hope and the right direction. This mention is of course a nice tribute to the father of the baby, giant panda Xing Ya.
It is tradition in China that the name is assigned to the young after 100 days and therefore a small private meeting was organized. After a number of short speeches by, among others, Mrs. Mossenelchner, Director of Asia and Oceania Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Ribiao on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in The Hague, a video built up the tension and revealed the name.
Wu Wen and Fan Xing are still staying in the maternity den for the time being. The animal keepers keep a close eye on the development of Fan Xing via camera images. Fan Xing needs to grow, learn to walk and follow Mother Wu Wen before they can explore the rest of the enclosure together. In the autumn of 2020, the first glimpse of Fan Xing is expected to be caught by visitors in Ouwehand Zoo.

The 3 Cuban boa's which were already for a while behind the scenes have now become a new home ( the old Iguana-enclosure ) at 'Urucu' .

Earlier this week a Mandrill was born at Ouwehands .

I was looking in the Zoochat gallery and it appears that Roloway's monkey were / are kept with Western lowland gorillas at this zoo, is this mix still working out ? or has it been discontinued ?
