UK (and Ireland) Red Panda Population

Banham Zoo only have the male Jasper now. Maggie died recently and Sumac moved on (can't remember where to though).

No offence to Andrew Swales but it was just an observation about the more major zoos, which I didn't feel included them,- however both Hamilton and Exmoor are certainly not to be underestimated as to their quality of collections.

Of the two, Exmoor is lucky to have a fantastic local environment to work with and incorporate into its exhibits. Alongside its collection, as you've highlighted, it further adds to the zoos charm.

Although, whilst Hamerton isn't as conventionally "pretty", its opportunity for large scale expansion is incredible; as shown with its new "Bear meadow".

Regents Park was the first zoo in the UK to have Red Pandas, I understand...
I'm not sure how interested you are in historical records but London Zoo's first red panda was acquired on 22nd May 1869.

And the first red panda born at London Zoo was born on 6th June 1919; this was a short-lived individul and died 12th December 1919.

Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park will be revealing the name of their male cub at 1pm tomorrow. Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park - Home | Facebook

I watched BWCP's facebook live video this afternoon (which was great btw). The youngster has been named 'Pan'. 'Pan' will be leaving the park within the next few months for Bristol zoo.

BWCP will then receive a new female, to join their resident male 'Mo', from the Isle of Man (presumably this will be 'Aria' or 'Sara').

Thanks, I have got that in my historical records. Causes me a bit of a problem as Excel doesn't handle dates prior to 1st January 1900!

I watched it too, thanks for the tip. Appreciate it.

Chestnut at Blackpool died in 2019/2020, Alina a new female has replaced her. I fail to recall where she was sourced from. South Lakes currently have five red panda, the adult pair and three offspring.

Thanks for that update, I will try to find more and update my records. Appreciate your help.

@migdog was Maggie the female that recently died at Banham, the same Maggie that previously resided at Whipsnade Zoo? If yes and Maggie’s mother passed away while she was still a Cub.

No offence taken, not on that point anyway ;) - and greetings from New Zealand...
