Happy to see this little mammal. It is one I've seen before but I still went actively looking for it for my year list. Down a little creek and back again I saw one of these poke its head out of the water nibbling on some grass.

148. Question mark (Polygonia interrogationis)
149. Keeled treehopper (Entylia carinata)

Finally starting to learn the different bird calls as spring arrives - lots of passerines outside singing to practise on ;). Still quite a restricted pool of species one can see in London but a few more species I picked up here and there. Fingers crossed soon we'll be able to leave the city safely.

Birds:

41. European goldfinch, Carduelis carduelis.

Inverts:

1. Fleecy jumper, Pseudeuophyrs lanigera.

In the South of France now and got a few species just from being out and about a bit. Will try and get to some sort of reserve to see some wetland birds in the next week, and then off to the Alps!

Birds:

43. Eurasian jay, Garrulus glandarius.
44. Eurasian collared dove, Streptopelia decaocto
45. Barn swallow, Hirundo rustica.

Spent a large part of yesterday on a boat out of Staithes, North Yorkshire, looking for sea birds and marine mammals - although my appalling recent track record with larger cetaceans in UK waters continued we did get porpoises, seals, and a lovely line up of birds including young puffins, more fulmars than you can shake a stick at, diving gannets, a smart juvenile Mediterranean Gull, and the below lovely lot. The jellyfish is a 'technical' lifer - the first sighting since I formalised my invert list.

164. Arctic Tern - Sterna paradisaea
165. Manx Shearwater - Puffinus puffinus

Ever since I learnt that Tristram's warbler can be reliably seen in Imouzzer, a mountainous region 60 some km away from my hometown, I've had it locked as a target species. I went to Imouzzer in winter last year but that was mainly to find Red crossbills as Tristram's warbler go south to the desertic parts of Morocco during winter. As such, I thought I'd try for them whenever I had time this summer.

And that's exactly what I did today!

19/07/2021 (Vallée d'Imouzzer Ida-Outanane, Morocco)
BIRDS:
168 - Tristram's warbler, Curruca deserticola

INVERTS:
36 - Southern scarce swallowtail, Iphiclides feisthamelii
37 - Epaulet skimmer, Orthetrum chrysostigma

A great lifer and one of the more common species I was lacking for Morocco (although it's still hard to get). This brings me closer to completing the Moroccan Sylviidae set as I only need 3 species to do so now.

24/07/2021 (Issen, Morocco)
MAMMALS:
3 - Barbary striped grass mouse, Lemniscomys barbarus

HERPS:
6 - Berber toad, Sclerophys mauretanica

In the last few weeks I have been on a few mostly butterfly or dragonfly-related trips. Frustratingly, I had to work on the days with the very best conditions for those animals, but nonetheless I was able to add a fair number of interesting species. I was particularly happy to finally see my nemesis butterfly, Ringlet. While is species is common in much of the eastern half of the Netherlands, there are no meaningful populations in my local area, so I'm very happy to have finally found one!

26. Beautiful Demoiselle, Calyopteryx virgo
27. Banded Darter, Sypmetrum pedemontanum

Massive haul down below :P. First day properly birding in a couple of years - a fair few lifers actually (though a lot of those in bold below are likely not lifers because I have probably seen them before I started my lifelist). It was in nice wildlife reserve just near the Camargue, so a few wetland birds here and there. Also encountered a group of birders looking out for a hoopoe in a bush so I took a few shots fairly randomly hoping for the bird in one of them ;) - either way wouldn't count but just for the fun of it.

A lot of the small lakes around the park were actually dried up completely, so lots of mammals were using the lakebed as a highway, saw some definite fox and boar prints in the soft substrate. Anyways here's the list.

46. Greater flamingo, Phoenicopterus roseus.
47. Alpine swift, Apus melba.
48. Western swamphen, Porphyrio porphyrio.

Apologies for getting this wrong again, but I have an addition and a mistake to rectify. The 'Black kite' cited above was not in fact a Black kite but a, for me, much more pleasant Booted eagle, which is also a lifer incidentally. Also managed to ID a Common tern on one of my pics of the visit so:

67. Booted eagle, Hieraaetus pennatus.
68. Common tern, Sterna hirundo.

Only two away now! :)
