This is a list of all the Malayan tigers in North America, the purpose of this thread is to document all births, deaths, and transfers of Malayan tigers in North America. Currently, there are 52 (31.21) Malayan tigers in North America. Like with the NA Sumatran tiger population, the Malayan population has also experienced lower birth rates in recent years. This year a single female cub named Dara has been born at Tulsa, four cubs in two litters were born last year, and no cubs were born at all in 2018 or 2019. Information has been much harder to gather with the Malayan tiger population than the Sumatran population and so I do have a couple "unknowns" so if you have any info about these, let me know! Side note: I find it interesting how there are several breeding aged animals that are either at zoos with related individuals or the only Malayan tiger at their zoo. Why not form a bunch of breeding pairs with all these un-paired individuals... anyways, here's the list:

I just found out from an Instagram post that Tulsa Zoo has another adult male Malayan Tiger:

I found articles saying he was in Fresno but also just recently found a Facebook post from May saying he had returned so I'm assuming he came back to Tulsa from Fresno. He lived at Tulsa years ago and sired four cubs with Jin including Ava, and her cub Dara is his grand-daughter.

Yes, Gahara moved back to Tulsa from Fresno as Fresno is in the process of building a new/expanded tiger exhibit as part of Kingdoms of Asia.
 
Jammu passed away in September 2021 at the Alexandria Zoo:

Nazira (Jasin x Maya) passed away in December 2017 at the Alexandria Zoo. She had been moved there from Baton Rouge to hopefully breed with Jammu after her sister, Yatti, died there but she also ended up passing away, I think from the same health issue that resulted in her sister's death if I remember correctly from when I asked someone. Suhana at the Bronx Zoo is the last surviving sister from that litter of 3.

Angin (at Ellen Trout Zoo) is also known as Pepino for purposes of completeness.

Bzui (at Zoo Tampa) passed away in November 2020. I had someone I know confirm that for me when they visited but I have no details about her cause of death.
 
0.1 Arya will be leaving Zoo Knoxville soon since she didn’t get along with either of Knoxville’s males. She’s headed to another AZA accredited zoo to be paired with a new male.

Another female will be arriving at Knoxville fairly soon to be paired with Tanvir. His brother Bashir is recommended to be sent to another zoo for breeding and will likely leave soon as well.
 
Jango has moved from the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound to Dickerson Park Zoo. He's currently the most genetically valuable male Malayan tiger in the North American SSP. It remains to be seen whether his brother, Raja, will get a girlfriend given that he remains outside of the SSP at a non AZA facility. I visited both brothers over the years at EFBC.

0.1 “Izzy” has been transferred to Baton Rouge Zoo from Cincinnati to breed with one of their males. Her sister “Batari” will be leaving the zoo on a breeding recommendation soon as well.

I will be posting an updated list (for all my population lists including this one) in January which includes several transfers and deaths I recently found out about.
 
Eko at the Naples Zoo died this evening after being shot when he attacked an intruder in his enclosure.
 
Some guy from a cleaning contractor, that should not have been anywhere near the enclosure, decided to get close to a tiger and ended up with it getting hold of his hand, and then the police shoot the tiger so it would let go. Yet another zoo animal dead because some idiot thinks if its in a zoo it must be tame.
 
January 2022 Update:

One (0.1) cub was born in 2021 which is less than ideal considering the number of pairs that were recommended to breed.

0.1 Dara was born on July 11th, 2021 to experienced parents 1.0 Tahan and 0.1 Ava at the Tulsa Zoo. Tulsa is now the only facility in North America to have a multigenerational group of Malayan tigers, even though they obviously don't all live together.

Five (4.1) Malayan tigers passed away in 2021, all were in their mid teens to early twenties but poor Eko.

0.1 Hana passed away in January 2021 at the age of 20 due to issues associated with old age. She did not leave behind any direct descendants but has a number of nieces and nephews scattered around in the population.

1.0 Jammu was euthanized in September 2021 at the age of 22 at Alexandria Zoo due to significant weight loss and muscle mass. He was Hana's elder full brother and leaves behind two sons in the population.

1.0 Malik passed away on September 15th, 2021 at the age of 14 and leaves behind two full brothers and various half-siblings.

1.0 Liku passed away in early October 2021 at the age of 17 after being diagnosed from advanced kidney disease at Little Rock Zoo. He was Malik's older full brother and leaves behind two full brothers, two sons and a daughter in the population.

1.0 Eko passed away on December 29th, 2021 at the age of 8 due to the very tragic incident you all most likely know of already. He was Liku's son and leaves behind two full brothers, a full sister, and two half-sisters in the population.

A lot of movement in the population in 2021, and hopefully that leads to a lot of cubs in 2022! Nine (4.5) tigers were transferred in 2021, to my knowledge.

0.1 Indrah was transferred from Tulsa Zoo to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in January/February 2021.

1.0 Penari was transferred to Bronx Zoo on March 16th, 2021 from ABQ Biopark while his full-brother 1.0 Bunga was transferred from Dickerson Park Zoo on the same day.

0.1 Berisi was transferred to Dickerson Park Zoo from Palm Beach Zoo in March 2021.

1.0 Gahara was transferred from Fresno Chaffee Zoo to Tulsa Zoo in April/May 2021.

0.1 Batari was transferred to San Diego Zoo from the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in June 2021.

1.0 Jango was transferred from the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound to Dickerson Park Zoo in early November 2021.

Will the Cincinnati Zoo be receiving any Malayan Tigers with their departures?
 
Just seen that 1.0 Bashir will be leaving Knoxville soon. Does anyone know where he's headed (no breeding recommendation)?
