It's a public holiday in Norway today, so I managed to squeeze Wroclaw to my short trip. It's always a pleasure to visit this place. I missed the Wait-tailed Anstangy last time and found out that they were back on exhibit in the Madagascar house. I try multiple times and saw some signs of activity, but unfortunately they didn't show up. Next time... Four-toed hedgehog is not in the Desert house anymore, but the Long-eared hedgehog had newborn offspring! No Northern Luzon giant cloud rat, either. The Fat-tailed jird, Flower`s gerbil, Moorish gecko and Striped velvet gecko are listed as former holdings in Ztl, but they are definitely at the Zoo. The Flower's gerbil is signed with a synonym name.

One tip for the onces looking for Hammerhead Bats and can't find them in their regular exhibit. They can be spotted in a small cage behind the Manatee's feeding station.

The exhibits and the hall of the Terarium starts to look better and better. The one who excluded the Day Geckos from this Challenge, was a smart man :)

When it comes to Sharks, I probably missed one spieces, but the signige at the Africarium fish tanks is not the best..

I shared my thoughts regarding the Orientarium on the relevant thread and post some pictures. When it's come to the Challenge, Lodz doesn't have so much to offer, but have 5 spieces of Porcupines on display, so still got few nice spieces.

Poznan is the perfect place for this challenge and if you make it there on the beginning, your score will be very high. But as usually happens in life there were good news and bad news. The Rodent area is still restricted and now most of the exhibits look empty. The nocturnal house also lost some interesting species and there were few exhibits with the same animals and even empty ones. The good news were that I managed to observe Nandinia few times, saw the Vampire bat drinking blood and very active group of Feather-tailed Gliders.

Missed one from Lodz

A small haul from Werribee, but of far greater importance was my first ever zoo visit with my six year old niece. She's clearly a budding zoo nerd: after the safari bus ride, I asked what her favourite animal on the ride was, expecting it to be inevitably either 'giraffe', 'rhino' or 'zebra'. But no, her favourite was "all the different antelopes".

We'll make a Zoochatter of her one day.

Werribee Open Range Zoo - 4/6/2022

38. Hippopotamus - Hippopotamus amphibius
39. Cheetah - Acinonyx jubatus
40. Tammar wallaby - Notamacropus eugenii

I'm already reasonably close to having exhausted all the exotic species of relevance available in Australia - there might be another 10-12 left that are theoretically possible, though certainly I will see less than that. Luckily I've still got plenty of marsupials to pursue. My informal target for the year is to exceed my monotreme and marsupial total from 2020 (32).

Pretty good for a small collection! Sadly couldn’t spot the Pine Martin despite a few visits to the enclosure but got everything else for the challenge. May I say, great little park - 4 species of otter, 9 species of owl, large wooded enclosures for lynx and wolves, free-roaming wallabies and deer in areas of the park, an awesome harvest mouse enclosure and a nicely layed out indoor section.
