It's that time of year - the vagrant gulls are showing up and I'm spending hours staring at flocks of thousands of gulls over and over again to find the one that's a slightly different size:

Went back through my list; turns out I've listed Greenfinches twice so my score before today was 82.

Had an absolutely lovely day at Arundel Wetland Centre today however, which boosts both my Big Year, Life list and captive waterfowl totals considerably. I reckon I'll have to make a review somewhere tonight as it was a very enjoyable trip and one which put me ever closer to my target. The place is a hotspot for chiffchaffs, reed warblers, sedge warblers, so those were fairly easy to hear (though less easy to spot) around the centre. I think I may have missed the breeding kingfishers by a matter of days, so not sure if I'll see one at all this year but keeping fingers crossed.

Reptiles:
Seen (And nearly stepped on) at Heron Pond. Venomous, I know, but it was sitting along some stepping stones across a washed out area, and I spotted it sitting two stepping stones away from where I was. I opted to get my shoes slightly wet through the washed out area instead.

A juvinile and adult seen in the leaf litter at the Indian Creek Trail at Giant City state park. The juvinile is certainly striking with the blue tail and black and yellow body.

Seen at Powder Valley Concervation Nature Center near St. Louis. I saw the ring-necked snake slither away into some leaf litter, and the Ratsnake I once again nearly stepped on as one raced across the paved pathway.

The Larue Pine Hills were fascinating in their own right, but disappointingly unproductive. Heron Pond Forest Preserve did not result in as many herps as I expected either, but in both cases, I think it had much to do with it being overcast and colder weather, as once it warmed up and the sun stayed out at Giant City, the herps were more abundant. Overall, it was a good trip, and the unique geology and ecosystems within the parks were worth the trip alone. For being so nearby, I'd certainly like to make a return trip during the peak herp season sometime and explore the region a bit more.
