Had a lovely visit here the other day I don’t have sml children but thought the dinosaur walk through was very pleasant we watched the keepers put it a tall pole in one of the polar bears enclosure and place a chunk of meat on it then watched it find it, we walk for miles here but it never feels to crowded unlike other zoos lol

Does anyone know how many bears project polar 1 can accommodate?
It’s say on a bear conservation website that they ideally need at least two acres per bear and pp1 is 10 acres so that’s five bears soo either one polar bear will leave or they’ll have to have one in the little area but I’m also curious as to how the bears will be separated as there four bedrooms (I think) soo one adult will share with the brothers and Luka can get aggressive and apparently Hamish can aswell soo would they have four in one enclosure and three on one bed

EXCITING NEWS
Polar bears indi and yuma have move to project polar 1
At the moment ywp have not announced it but a very trusted photographer on the ywp Facebook groups has posted them in the tunnel areas

When I visited in the summer last year, I was told this was the plan. I was also told they hoped to move one of their unrelated males to project polar 2 to breed but they were waiting on the studbook.

Exciting times ahead!

would they have enough space to breed more. it is unclear as of yet what will happen with young female Tala. also, Hamish came here from the highland wildlife park so is that what is likely to happen with there new polar bear cub. on all 4 of my visits to YWP, Luka has been on his own each time. is having aggressive males like this in project polar 1 going to interfere with space. it is a shame that the 4th enclosure was never made because that could have added a good couple of acres if not more.

Do you think they’d perhaps look at the possibility of constructing a 4th enclosure?

I think that that would be the best thing going forwards. The park has an amazing polar bear group and some really great facilities. If the 4th enclosure was constructed it could mean that Luka would have his own enclosure as too could hamish if these 2 bears have more aggressive traits. The 2 brothers indi and yuma could inhabit a 3rd enclosure and Nobby and Sisu in another because I believe these to get along well.

Anyone know if the sea lions are being allowed to breed as now their is 3 males and only the two female mums plus the dad Dominic!

Sorry if this was already answered, I can't see that it was, I asked last week and they are going to be a breeding group.

I saw someone pics on Facebook of vlad and a very small looking tiger which I thought was tschuna because Sayan is a lot bigger than her

I'm surprised, I always think Tschuna looks a very solid, chunky tiger, although it's the white that allows me to recognise her.

From yesterday and today for those interested:
The cotton top tamarin youngsters are now outside frequently and there are at least four adults, but they were too quick to count.

The three crowned lemurs (one female and two males) were out, they have been there for a little while and on exhibit but still the first time I saw them. They were using the far end of lemur woods (unlike the other two species).

The (relatively new) pair of Biesa Oryx (only ones in the U.K., I think I heard on here) have now been separated from the rest of the hoofstock in the African section, being held in the paddock behind the large hoofstock house, but still visible from the okapi enclosure. This has been the case for over a month now, since June 1st. I assumed there must be some issue with the mixing of them and possibly the Eland or Zebra females but I have no clue why. Hopefully it’s temporary.
