I missed them last visit as they had been moved. Anyone know how many in the group now?A female Francois' Langur has been born at Twycross Zoo. She was born on the 8th July: Fran the François: Zoo’s new arrival celebrates Lionesses’ success - Twycross Zoo
Oh dear. Wonder what they could put in those empty enclosuresJust returned from my first visit in a couple of months and was left feeling a bit worried about the place for the first time in a long while. Perhaps because I’ve recently been to other collections over the last month ( Colchester, marwell, Paignton, Longleat ) and have comparisons of what can be done and what shouldn’t. The gruffalo is fine it does it’s job and the new snake was good to see but it’s still is missing a fox and indeed a mouse. The rest of the zoo now has more empty enclosures with the enclosure under improvements signs which is wearing thin now given the otter and variegated spider monkeys enclosure has been like this for a year of so now with nothing happening to them the new zoo map shows them as empty enclosures now along with four others. The yellow throated martens appears to be gone though I can confirm this but there enclosure is all boarded up and the signage removed and I didn’t see them anywhere else in the zoo. The tapir have moving crates in there enclosure now also I would think this would be for the entrance to the zoo of the road improvements but I can’t think where in the zoo they could go even with all the empty enclosure if they require a pool, so I fear for there future at the zoo. The most bemusing of all though is the old chimp enclosure by the tigers is being renovated for, according to the new map l’hoest’s monkeys and not just keepers redoing the out side but contractors renovating the indoor quarters I’m sure this enclosure was due to be demolished for the new master plan areas. As a member I would really like to know what the zoos master plan is currently before reinvesting in the membership, I will of course reinvest perhaps more though for the partner zoos entrance than twycross it’s self till all becomes clear on its direction, of to chester tomorrow for a pick me up, will upload a pic of the map in the gallery

A bulldozer would be a good startOh dear. Wonder what they could put in those empty enclosures
I'm not sure why this is being re-developed for the L'Hoests Monkeys. It was only a few months ago they were moved into what was formerly the Bonobo House. Why the continual moves of existing species from enclosure to enclosure? Francois Langurs are another example. Doesn't make an awful lot of sense unless the zoo explain it better. The most bemusing of all though is the old chimp enclosure by the tigers is being renovated for, according to the new map l’hoest’s monkeys
I know the new map shows the l’hoests moving to there though and the old bonobo house being another empty enclosure baring the tortoises it’s just bafflingI'm not sure why this is being re-developed for the L'Hoests Monkeys. The yellow-throated martens would be a sad loss if they have indeed departed. But they were often invisible to visitors in their sleeping boxes.Maybe the reason why.I hope the zoo starts getting things sorted soon. Shame about the yellow throated martens if they have left the collection.
I would have thought the other old gorilla enclosure near the tapirs would have been better for lope as in the old bonobo house they would still be able to see each other just about I don’t know if this would be a good or bad thing ?I wonder if the old bonobo house is being prepared for Lope to move into, though that doesn't explain why they put the L'Hoests in there to start with. The lemurs also need moving if the orangutan plan is going ahead, maybe they will be moving into the empty exhibit near the crowned lemurs.

I almost always saw them, perhaps because they when being feed when I was there in the afternoon. I do hope there there somewhere as they where a favourite and one of there few unique speciesThe yellow-throated martens would be a sad loss if they have indeed departed. That doesn't really matter as its only necessary to seperate them if Oumbie starts being aggressive. Still having sight of the rest of the group would not be harmful in that case I don't think. But Oumbie might tolerate him for some years to come yet.I would have thought the other old gorilla enclosure near the tapirs would have been better for lope as in the old bonobo house they would still be able to see each other just about I don’t know if this would be a good or bad thing ?
