Gibbons, Geladas, and Guenons Galore! -- Primates in North America

White-bellied Spider Monkey (Ateles belzebuth) -- 2 Total Holders (2.0.0)

USA-
Creation Kingdom Zoo?
Indian Creek Zoo?

Ralph Mitchell Zoo in Independence, KS holds one of these. Not sure if it is male or female.

There is a photo on this news article from the zoo: Rare monkey born in Scott County zoo

And a video from the zoo, although the monkeys remain in the background.

New World monkeys aren't really my thing, but to me they don't look like Golden-bellied Capuchins.

The photo on their website is just taken from the internet I think.

They certainly don't look like the standard capuchins on the private trade, but I also agree that they don't quite match Golden-Bellied. Not sure what they are, though.

@TinoPup Any upclose photos of the capuchins from your recent visit to Creation Kingdom?

Nope. Their exhibit is the same as those hybrid lemurs, unfortunately. Of course the most interesting primates are the ones that have the really dark exhibits... maybe that's intentional? I thought the name was something I haven't read before but you know me, I'm not good with primates lol. This is all I have:

Looking through other listings, here's their sooty mangabeys, signed as white-capped:

Other primates at Creation Kingdom Zoo, as signed:
Squirrel Monkey Saimiri sciureus
White-throated Capuchin Cebus capucinus
White-handed Gibbon Hylobates lar
Snow Macaque Macaca fuscata
Ring-tailed Lemur Lemur catta
Hamadryas Baboon Papio hamdryas
"Albifrons Lemur" Eulemur fulvus - some sort of hybrid
Black & White Ruffed Lemur Varecia variegata
Black Spider Monkey Ateles paniscus

I know they also keep some species behind the scenes in their "conservation center" and they're actively building new exhibits. It's only been 3.5 weeks since my visit and several new species are now out (including honey badgers, grr).

DeYoung no longer keeps Grivet, Crab-eating Macaque, Pig-tailed Macaque, Japanese Macaque, White-throated Capuchin, Black-headed Spider Monkey, Ring-tailed Lemur, or Red Ruffed Lemur.

They may or may not still keep Hamadryas Baboon and Common Chimpanzee, I'm not sure about those.

Wow...they have really decimated their primate collection. However, some of those exhibits were atrocious when I was there in 2014 and so the downsizing might be a good thing!

Yeah, there really aren't any bad exhibits left at the zoo anymore. It's not just their primate collection that got downsized though. I never though I'd see the day when they wouldn't exhibit Lions, especially since they had one of the best Lion exhibits I've ever seen - now it's just one of the best Coyote exhibits I've ever.

White-faced capuchin, Ring-tailed lemur, and Brown capuchin at Oley Turnpike Dairy in PA.

Detroit keeps Allen's Swamp Monkey.

Animal Haven Zoo keeps Crab-eating Macaque, Japanese Macaque, and Ring-tailed Lemur.

I can now confirm that Cohanzick Zoo has Mueller's Gibbon, Lar Gibbon, Common Marmoset and Ringtail Lemur.

Hemker actual does have Night Monkey and Greater Galago (either Garnett’s or Brown) now, but appears to no longer have Black & White Ruffed Lemur

Safari North Wildlife Park no longer has Black Howler Monkey, White-Handed Gibbon, or Black & White Ruffed Lemur, but now also displays White-Fronted Lemur, White-Faced Saki, Common Squirrel Monkey, Cotton-Topped Tamarin, Red-Handed Tamarin, Mantled Guereza, White-Faced Capuchin, Japanese Macaque, Crab-Eating Macaque, Stuhlmann’s Blue Monkey, and Hamadryas Baboon.

Lesser Spot-nosed Monkey (Cercopithecus petaurista) -- 7 Total Holders (7.0.0)

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo
Great Plains Zoo
Little Rock Zoo
Memphis Zoo
Metro Richmond Zoo
Safari North Wildlife Park
San Diego Zoo
I may hav missed someone bring this upbut Central Florida zoo lists this species on their website and displays it on the ir map.

Will US Zoo's eventually build up their Mangabey numbers, particularly for the Red-Capped & Golden-Bellied? I know that Emory's National Primate Research Center keeps Sooty Mangabeys. I'd like to see more Red-Capped's in Congo themed exhibits. Maybe have the AZA focus on Red-Capped's and the EAZA focus on White-Naped's?

Also why do so few zoos have Olive & Guinea Baboons? I get the hype for Mandrills because of the bright colors and Rafiki reference from the Lion King, but the Papio baboons are really cool too and its always fun to hear them do their "Wahoo" calls!
