the tiger enclosure will be open to the public in July 15

19 Japanese rock ptarmigans of three clutches have been released to the wild. This is a joint effort with the ministry of environment and Nagano Chasuyama zoo.

1.1 Amur leopard cats which are not of the Tsushima locale have arrived to the park. The origins of the animals is not brought up.

Nasu is once more sending Kashishi away for breeding. This time however, instead of Kobe, Kashishi will be sent to Kochi prefecture in the Noichi Zoo.

The park published a video about the squirrel walkthrough enclosure and the squirrels that call it home. It does look decent but could definitely use more signage.

Due to the reports of bear-caused incidents in the area the park has announced that the nature trail/walking path (here’s a video of the trail as reference) that connects the town area with the farm area will be closed. There isn’t an given reopening date.

Indeed, the bear attack rates have gone up recently in Japan. I hope people don't start stereotyping them as monsters and start killing them...

According to Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo City, 0.0.1 Blakiston’s fish owl has been transferred to Nasu animal kingdom.
Do they already hold Blakiston's fish owl or is this the first for NAK?

How is the Japanese rock ptarmigan program going since the 2022 releases?
What are the other partners in this ex situ conservation breeding project (the Ministry of Environment and Nagano Chasuyama Zoo doing as part of this exciting breed for release project.

All I know is that there is a documentary that does focus on the release. Some of the animals unfortunately have been predated by foxes and weasels.

The zoo has finally opened a new display for their gentoo penguins, which was a promise from the crowdfunding campaign back at 2020. However the animals will go indoors in April 7. I do not know if the indoor enclosure is a new enclosure or if it is the same small enclosure in the penguin village.

Nice habitat, Japan really has a knack for good quality penguin habitats.
