Why? Gaur is not common in the UK!Great news, that's a rapid expansion for their herd. Makes me wonder if any more UK zoos will invest in this species? Seems to be going a much better way than alternatives like gaur.

Hm? Not sure what you mean with this reply, I know they aren't common in the UK, hence I said that banteng are doing better. Why? Gaur is not common in the UK!
Don't understand why you would want less gaur? Gaur breed very well too ( just look at Whipsnade record) !! Surely the more holders of both the better, not phasing out gaur in favour of banteng (as is happening!)Hm? They didn’t say they wanted to phase out gaur.Don't understand why you would want less gaur? Gaur breed very well too ( just look at Whipsnade record) !! Surely the more holders of both the better, not phasing out gaur in favour of banteng (as is happening!)
So what does 'seems like a better way to go than alternatives like gaur' suggest?? Gaur have bred frequently, it isn't that they don't breed can be used for not keeping them!! The post I responded to was nonsense! They didn’t say they wanted to phase out gaur.
I initially misread Fallax's original reply as well, but what they're saying (do correct me if I'm wrong) is that banteng are doing much better in zoos than gaur. Not that gaur should be phased out, just that they are.Don't understand why you would want less gaur? Gaur breed very well too ( just look at Whipsnade record) !! Gaur ARE being phased out. But not because they can't breed which was the point I was trying to make! Banteng are doing better because there are more of them and Gaur are not being bred that's all so the post was nonsenseI initially misread Fallax's original reply as well, but what they're saying (do correct me if I'm wrong) is that banteng are doing much better in zoos than gaur. Not that gaur should be phased out, just that they are.
As an aside ultimately banteng are endangered and gaur are "just" vulnerable in certain populations. It doesn't seem to me to be the best idea, phasing one out in favour of the other, but that is what is happening. Both fabulous animals.
No - you have misread it. The post stated: banteng 'Seems to be going a much better way than alternatives like gaur.'So what does 'seems like a better way to go than alternatives like gaur' suggest?? I give up!!! I have explained but you can't read!!No - you have misread it. The post stated: banteng 'Seems to be going a much better way than alternatives like gaur.'
I would advise you reread the initial post and our replies again. We are all agreeing with you, and nobody is saying it is a good idea. Just that overall banteng are doing better in zoos than gaur are. That is precisely what the original post was saying, which is what we have been attempting to point out. Even if the originally reply stated what you believe you read, to refer to it as nonsense is not particularly constructive either.Gaur ARE being phased out. But not because they can't breed which was the point I was trying to make! Banteng are doing better because there are more of them and Gaur are not being bred that's all so the post was nonsense
No need to be rude (to me or anyone else in this conversation).I give up!!! I have explained but you can't read!!
The post reads pretty much the same anyway, I can't quote posts off my phone, but either way it is obvious why banteng are doing better, it isn't rocket science! I haven't been 'rude ' at all either for the record!!No need to be rude (to me ot anyone else in this conversation).
The initial poster may not know about gaur being phased out, so from their perspective, it might appear that they are not doing as well as banteng.
That doesn't change the fact that you switched around the wording of the original post and then proceeded to tell everyone else they were wrong.
"I give up!!! I have explained but you can't read!!"I haven't been 'rude ' at all either for the record!!
It's not obvious if you're not aware the species is being phased out - it's not the sort of thing that gets announced publicly. If you're not 'in the know' such decisions are rarely shared by zoos / studooks / TAGs.The post reads pretty much the same anyway, I can't quote posts off my phone, but either way it is obvious why banteng are doing better
That isn't rude! Telling people to read instead of spouting nonsense is not rude. I have explained my comment earlier but ......"I give up!!! I have explained but you can't read!!"
This doesn't read the same to me as your explanation above but I am going to fall out with a lot of people so I will just call it a day. That is not accepting any error on my part!Great news, that's a rapid expansion for their herd. Makes me wonder if any more UK zoos will invest in this species? Seems to be going a much better way than alternatives like gaur.
Yes the plan is to have the Bush Dogs where the Bat Eared Fox were, Caracara will go next door in the old Ocelot enclosure, understand there is also plans to have animals back in the old Rhino area.Just saw an email with the same updates. Excellent news, nice to see some progress at last.
Are the bush dogs going where the bat-eared foxes used to be? Also, does anyone know where the caracara will go? I can't think of anywhere obvious where they could go.
Great news about the snow leopard extension, one of my favourite species in the zoo.
The funny thing is yesterday I suggested bush dogs in the Beale Park thread, for guessing their new arrival. I got the right animal for the wrong zoo.
