On April 28th, it was reported that the zoo will have tarps over some of their bird exhibits, due to avian influenza. Eagles, owls, and hornbills will remain on exhibit, while the chickens and penguins will be off exhibit.
A wall is planned to be constructed along the river in Roosevelt Park as part of a flood protection project. In turn, this will have an effect on some animal enclosures; already planned are a new Bactrian camel exhibit, an expanded giraffe area with indoor viewing, and an animal hospital replacing the bears.
Some additional projects were revealed to be in the works. Beyond the indoor giraffe viewing, there will also be an African aviary, more indoor spade for zebras, and new gibbon and lemur holdings.
Kioni, a male giraffe, has been with the zoo since May 21 but has been kept separate from the females, Kianga and her daughter, Amani, while he was being quarantined.
On August 9th, the zoo announced they would transfer (2.1) Amur tigers named Dmitri, Luka, and Viktoria to other unspecified AZA facilities in the near future. The zoo also announced they would be transferring their (1.0) Amur tiger named Viktor to another unspecified AZA facility in order to receive a new Amur tiger.
