Also is the female tiger new? The way the male and female were interacting between the enclosures made us think it was new.
Will definitely go back in a couple of years to see how the zoo has changes.

They no longer hold Jaguarundi. The female tiger (Sahaja) is 10, and the male (Cicip) is 14. They aren't ever mixed together anymore, but live side by side, and interact through the mesh etc, but I've not seen them mixed for a long time.

Are the tigers pure Sumatran, Amur or mixed hybrid?

That was her final exhibit. Prior to that, they had breeding pairs, which lived in the exhibit that now houses the Sumatran Bearded Civets, which is pretty much opposite the Anteater.

The one up by the Tigers, was just a temporary fill when they were left with one, and wanted to change the other exhibit for the Civets. After the Jaguarundi died, the one by the Tigers was used for a trio of Tasmanian Brush-Tailed Golden Possum, before they moved to Stuttgart, and has been empty since, and boarded off.

You could go back when there's a change in weather and it could make all the difference in what species are out and about rather than wait another couple of years.

I would second that I think Hamerton benefits from more than one visit to find everything.

First Jaguarundi I ever saw was in that enclosure - you used to be able to get quite a good view through the enclosure fence side next to the meerkats. I was really happy to see one sitting under the tree from there!
 
Fun visit to Hamerton today, chilly and a bit rainy. Not too many visitors. With the wind and some feeding going on across the zoo however it was a great day for red kites!

The barking owls have been split into a couple of groups with two now next to the burrowing owls. I’d seen signs for eggs previously so not sure if there are more youngsters.

As well as the young white cheeked turaco mentioned in an earlier post which was in a nursery aviary cage near the flamingos, there were two little chicks in an incubator signed as born on 20/10. Lovely to see them.

The construction work on the other side of the bears is progressing well. Some new construction also going on in the goat / alpaca enclosure opposite the tigers, phone picture attached.

The temporary barriers near the brown hyena have all been removed so had great views of her from both the end that had the barrier and the area next to the dingos enclosure.

The young Saurus crane is looking great, lots of grey plumage now and nearly as tall as parents. It has been great to see young cranes at Hamerton and Whipsnade this year - feels like a proper treat for a crane fan!

Lots of activity across the zoo all day. Even saw the lynx (out stalking the jackals) just before I left, which is as rare as seeing the possums for me. Good views of the golden possums near the entrance today though. The bears are definitely slowing down a little getting ready for torpor but some impressive coat growth made for some nice photos as they were strolling around in the wind. The bear pond has had some of the rocks removed and the grass cut back.

Could anyone please list the Carnivora species that Hamerton currently holds, as I find the website difficult to use, and am planning a visit! Many thanks

When I was there the female was sniffing at the door to the left a lot and being very cautious which made me think maybe they’re off show there in the indoor quarters adjacent to hers but no idea if that’s true.
