On April 6th, the zoo announced that they acquired (1.1) Patagonian maras which will be on display in the My Big Backyard area in the coming week.

If you thought yesterday's six photo clues were obviously the unique features of Patagonian maras, you were correct! Four-month-old brother and sister maras are currently settling in behind the scenes, and the duo will make their debut in My Big Backyard in the coming week! In the meantime, we need your help naming them! Comment on your favorite set of names from the keeper-created list below. The name set with the most support on Facebook and Instagram wins! As you consider which names you think work best, here's a little about our magical maras. They are very friendly, brave and curious. The male mara is slightly smaller than his sister and has a darker gray hue on his face and back. He seems to like sitting in his keepers' laps while eating snacks. The female mara can be a tad shy around new people compared to her brother, but she soon warms up for a snack. She is a confident explorer, usually leading the way into new spaces. Tell us your favorite name duo by 5 p.m. on Mon., April 8. We'll announce their names on Wed., April 10. Poa and Briza -- These beautiful names represent grasses native to South America. Wesley and Buttercup -- A nod to the two main characters in 'The Princess Bride', a popular movie released in 1987. Torre and Cerro -- Cerro Torre is a famous mountain in Argentina. | Cheyenne Mountain Zoo | Cheyenne Mountain Zoo · Original audio

The two pups has been named Saffron and Kerfuffle. Saffron resembles his dad, Sage and Kerfuffle resembles his mother, Hullabaloo. They haven't been sexed yet.
Saffron, name definition is an herb, like sage, and Kerfuffle is a synonym for chaos.

Hullabaloo and Sage's meerkat pups have names! The lighter pup, resembling Sage (dad), is named Saffron, and the one resembling Hullabaloo (mom) is named Kerfuffle! Saffron is an herb, like sage, and Kerfuffle is a synonym for chaos — a three-generation family naming tradition that started with Hullabaloo's dad, Kamikaze. We haven't confirmed the pups' sexes yet, but we'll keep you posted. To celebrate Saffron and Kerfuffle, why not bring home a meerkat plush? This $65 adoption package includes a cuddly meerkat plush, a certificate of adoption, a fact sheet about meerkats, recognition as an adoptive parent on our website, and a color photo! CMZoo adoptions make great gifts or opportunities to treat yourself and feel good about it, because your adoption fee goes directly to supporting the excellent animal care you've come to expect from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. That is certainly an interesting mix. I hope it works out!

It's a bizarre mix. It feels like it undermines the uniqueness and intrigue of the mountain tapir by mixing it with a large, striking, and relatively common zoo species from a different part of the globe.

I do hope it works out, though.

This is easily the most intriguing mix I've heard of. But I'm confused....the tamarins are with Mochi but in an enclosure? Would love to see a pic of the layout

Over the past few weeks, a male black bear cub was sleeping in a tree. He was too young so the zoo decided to bring him to the zoo. He will be going to a rehab facility to be released in fall.
