Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Developments 2024

There is the Rhino midden in the Africa savannah (and I think there may be more of these kind of examples along the path)
There are Tiger tracks in the viewing area of the Tigers

If you are taking statues there is the Przewalski's horse and camel statues outside of the entrance to Eurasia and the orangutang statue outside indomalaya.

Other than the weaver nest what other artificial animal traces are there?
Here a list of the ones I remember at the moment.
Lion footprints
Leopard statue with gazelle in a tree
Termite mound and aardvark
Komodo dragon statue
There maybe a fake reptile somewhere?
Any others?
There's also the Sabre-toothed cat statue in the Discovery Zone. And the wire gorilla 'statue' in the Rainforest Pavilion.

Fake elephant poop in African Savanna
Large Tortoise by the Membership Office if the office is still there
Orangutan statue infront of Indomalaya
Possibly the Lizard on the tunnel by the Lions
I think there used to be a display of model of a Pancake Tortoise squeezed between two rocks in the same area
Models of Gorilla hands for comparison in African Rainforest
Large Turtle Shells, Spider on web, giant worm, artificial beaver dam Kids Zone
Everything in the Splash Park
Big Toad by the adopt a in pond display

A hippo skull in Africa!

Oh easiest one; the elephant poop along the outside trail
Kids always laughed at that one

There are a whole bunch of things in the Africa pavillion as well (footprints and leaf imprints etc)

Hippo and elephants have statues

Gorilla exhibit has that shared log (where kids jump on one side)

The guest services building is the latest casualty in the ongoing entrance construction

I attending the Board meeting today, although I was busy doing other stuff while listening, but here are some of the interesting tidbits:

-For the 50th anniversary, the zoo is looking to bring back the footprints that you can follow along the pathways. They'll be adding a new "leaf" print that leads to the greenhouse

-They are also looking to bring back the Keeper Talks, although they will be rebranded. I missed what they plan on calling it

-They will also be bringing back The Toronto Zoo jingle

-Hyenas, Pinduli and Echo, have been successfully introduced

-Polar Bears, Hudson and Juno, have also been successfully introduced

-The Indo Boardwalk is still on schedule to be completed for the summer

-I believe they mentioned that the Air Conditioned Red Panda extension will be starting soon

I did miss quite a bit, so if anyone has anything to add or correct anything I mentioned, feel free to chime in.

I love that they're going in on the nostalgia for the 50th, the footprints and that old jingle always bring all the memories back. I also love the old TZ VHS tape that's recommended on the sidebar for that video of the jingle, I know I wore my copy of that tape out back in the day lol

I'm guessing the red panda exhibit is set for next year, hopefully once the crew working on the Indo boardwalk is done they can move over to that

Were there any updates on the third Amur tiger exhibit? I know they ran into some trouble on that

@Blahaj2024! No this was directly to the left of the entrance, not the one down the hill with the tortoise statue outside. It was mostly for people with day tickets

...
That would be so cool if they open the greenhouse for viewing, but would be extremely difficult to accommodate large numbers of visitors without significantly expanding the facility. The greenhouse is nice but it's not huge, it will be interesting to see if that becomes a walk through or walk past feature.

The Greenhouse has been open for the public to walk through for several years already. Even before the renovations.

The renovations are very well done. It is now 3 times the size of exhibit space compared to before with accessible, widened paved paths and wheelchair accessible vestibules at the entry and the exit with powered doors. It is much more welcoming and seems like a true exhibit than a behind the scenes area. I think more sing is coming, but it is a really nice upgrade!

@AJ the TZ Guy, as much as we all might miss the old entrance and the childhood nostalgia it held, I think once the new one is ready we will barely miss it. The new one looks like it will be impressive and serve the zoo well for the next 50 years. Heck just having an exhibit at the entrance will be a huge improvement, even though the river otters are a sad disappointment after the great hope we were offered when plans showed us sea otters. But honestly other than us nuts, who else that visits the zoo would even know they missed out on sea otters? No one.

Otters, no matter what species they may be are always some of my favourite animals to watch. I love the idea of having an otter exhibit right at the entrance, as opposed to something like flamingos

The Toronto Zoo also has some old members still remaining like Puppe, Charles, Jonah, Toka, and Thika, Monty maybe idk if he is still alive, Sekali, Shintay. I am kinda disappointed that we won't be able to celebrate out 50th anniversary with our elephants but we should still post something about them.
