North American Orangutan Population

Luna a female Bornean Orangutan at Busch Gardens Tampa, have birth to a female baby. The birth however was a C-section so she is recovering, hopefully that all goes well and she accepts the baby when reintroduced.

I hope all goes well with mother and baby too - that little one is the granddaughter of Charlie and Melur at Auckland Zoo here in New Zealand and the niece of two-year-old Bahmi (Melur and Bahmi are pictured in my icon!)

The name was never specifically revealed in a post, but I can confirm the baby's name is Nanas.

A Bornean Orangutan infant was born on June 21st to parents Yasmin and Boomer at the Toledo Zoo!
The infant's sex has not yet been determined.

This is wonderful news! This little one is another relative of our Auckland Zoo mother orangutan, Melur, since Yasmin is Melur's mother (Melur was born during Yasmin's days at Hong Kong Zoo). Melur is pictured in my icon along with her infant son, Bahmi.

The infant has been confirmed as a male and has been named "Akyli"

Aww, he's gorgeous! And Yasmin is a wonderful mama, just like her daughter Melur here in NZ at Auckland Zoo! Melur is pictured in my icon with her own infant son, Bahmi, who is now 2 years of age. There is quite the family resemblance to Yasmin and Akyli!
