According to a recent instagram post of Haus des Meeres, a new species arrived, namely the
South American bushmaster (Lachesis muta). However according to ZTL this species already arrived in 2021, so probably it has only recently been put on display.
A week ago the new Australien-Erlebniswelt opened!
The following species can be found there (atleast have been mentioned on their instagram):
- Western Brush-tailed bettongs (Bettongia penicillata ogilbyi)
- Rufous rat kangaroos (Aepyprymnus rufescens)
Atleast two bird species, which according to ZTL are not kept at Haus des Meeres.
- Eastern rosellas (Platycercus eximius)
- Swift parrots (Lathamus discolor)
Could someone confirm whether Haus des Meeres actually has these species?
Oh, I guess I was really lucky then! I went today and can confirm that the two rat kangaroo species are signed, I only saw the woylies. The folliwing bird species are there (I saw all of them):
Eastern rosella
Swift parrot
Bourke's parrot
Elegant parrot
Budgerigar
The whole thing is very scenic and even has a small outside section that can be used in good weather.
According to a recent instagram post, there is also an aquarium in the Australia area which among others houses Australian lungfish (Neoceratodus forsteri).
A few months ago a new species arrived at the zoo, namely Giant wood-rails (Aramides ypecaha). Recently the first eggs hatched, a zoo first breeding for Haus des Meeres!
Great news from Haus des Meeres! They have been able to breed Namaqua chameleons (Chamaeleo namaquensis) for the first time in captivity!
One of the females has laid eggs again!
