The Zoo Granby announced that their male mandrill, Kouma will be leaving for the Calgary Zoo to form a new group here in Calgary with a female already present in Calgary. Kouma had his last checkup before he go. He is maybe 5 years old. Zoo Granby do not want aggression between the male mandrill.

Kouma the mandrill successfully arrived at Calgary this week from Granby. Kouma is actually related to Layla the female mandrill already at the zoo. The mandrill that died recently named Tumbilli was acctually the father of Kouma. That means that Layla is the aunt of Kouma. Sadly no breeding, just being her companion.

Would love to welcome her to Toronto! We are down to just one male right now and we could use a friend! Will be excited to see where she ends up.

Any idea what's happening with her siblings?

These signs are amazing. I find some zoo have these with their large charismatic mammals (i.e. Elephants and Gorillas), but it is so nice to see more of the animals getting that treatment!

The only downside is that they may get out of date once animals move, but hopefully they are planning to stay on top of it and update it as things change.

The zo is trying the best to keep the signs up to date. When Freya the cougar passed, they quickly changed the signage. This addition would be cool in Toronto zoo.
