EcoZonia ECOZONIA - Terre de prédateurs

The park will open its doors to the public for the first time may 19th.
Before this date, only the visitors who are sleeping in lodges can access to the park until may 9th.
The zoo will receive three new wolves from Slovakia and they will share the three brown bears enclosure.

Since the opening, the zoo received 30.000 visitors. The director said it's not so bad regarding the covid crisis and the health pass. Next year, the zoo will add a new species which was described as otters.

Just out of interest what is the background of the owner?

@AthleticBinturong Cyril Vaccaro, founder and president of the owner society (not sure he is the majority shareholder), was previously keeper in Réserve Africaine de Sigean for some times and last time assistant head keeper and assistant instructional leader in Zoa, small zoo in Sanary (south-east of France).

I visited this zoo a few months ago and the truth is that my opinion is quite positive. It'ss true that the zoo is just beginning but in general it's beautiful and the animals have good enclosures and a good quality of life. I hope this continues. The collection is good, but it obviously has a lot to improve as the park grows.

In May 2026 the Park will open a new 2 hectares area called Land of Incas based on fauna of Peru. Species announced for the moment : pumas, andean condors, alpacas, vicunas, giant anteaters, black-chested buzzard-eagle, turkey vultures and Harris's hawk.

Sounds really nice! Although it surprises me to see vicuñas on that lineup, I thought the only hervibores the park wanted to keep were domestic species.
Wouldn't be surprised if spectacled bears are palnned for a future, it would be an incredible addition to this area.

French zoos are on fire, building news exhibits left and right. This is perfect. With new holding space for more individuals, it makes EEPs more viable.

Is it possible they would go also for small cats or more bird species in this new extension?

The original planned species list (in the first post of this thread) mentions the following species for the Peruvian zone:

Already present or planned -

  • Andean condor
  • Black-chested buzzard-eagle

  • Harris's hawk
In the original plans, but not yet confirmed -
  • Ocelot
  • Tayra
  • Spectacled bear
  • Coati (unidentified to species level)
  • American black vulture
