Paradise Wildlife Park Hertfordshire Zoo (formerly Paradise Wildlife Park) news 2024

I have just heard from Hertfordshire zoo that they are no longer running the red panda feeding sessions. It seems like they haven't run them for several months now but haven't made it public knowledge.

Male white lion Moto has died at 17. Born at West Midlands in 2007 he arrived at Paradise in 2011.
this is so heartbreaking, Moto was such a keystone animal for them in the park - you could always hear him from every area!

I wonder what they'll do with Izulu and Zuri now there's just the two of them left; I know as white lions they won't be paired for breeding but I wonder if they'll move them into the new Lioness Enclosure at BCS.

To mark today's National Wildlife Day (September 4th), Hertfordshire Zoo have opened a new native species display called the UK Centre for Species Survival Trail. As well as including wildlife attracting features such as insect hotels and bird boxes, and gardens of native plants including the rare black poplar tree, the trail also includes some exhibits for native herptiles, including slow worms, adders, sand lizards and Northern pool frogs. The latter three species will be bred for reintroduction programmes.

An article about the opening can be read below:

There is also an official video here that shows the exhibit, plus also has a clip of an additional species, the Aesculapian snake.
16 reactions | National Wildlife Day! We are excited to announce the official opening of the UK Centre for Species Survival Trail! High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP and CBBC star, Cam Whitnall cut the ribbon to celebrate this remarkable occasion! ✂️ The UK faces a severe biodiversity crisis, with 41% of species in decline and 15% at risk of extinction since 1970. The trail is dedicated to highlighting the rich biodiversity of British wildlife, demonstrated by our native sand lizards, Northern pool frogs and adders. The new trail represents the substantial step in our efforts to rewilding these animals back to their native habitats! Visited for the first time today, the third of four visits to zoos this week (after Hamerton and Banham), main pull was seeing the new exhibits and seeing Kyra the Sun Bear who we saw as a cub at Chester.

For a zoo that seems primarily aimed at families with small children it was very small but only the zebra paddock felt inadequate space wise (lemurs are due to move to a Madagascar section that is currently under construction).

The tiger, sun bear, jaguar and snow leopard section of the zoo with two layered viewing is excellent. The new gibbon exhibit is great too and we got good views of Ethan, Newt and Ripley. The dinosaur train was good fun and the place just had a nice peaceful feel to it, although I'd imagine it's a bit more chaotic at weekends!

I was very impressed by their sun bear exhibit. I felt it very obvious in the zoo of where the money has been spent, I agree the zebras have a small paddock for example. Thankfully it seems they’re going through their older exhibits and upgrading them (e.g. lemurs). Do they still have those two poor wolves next to that train and the loud dinosaurs?
