Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Taman Mini Indonesia Indah news

With the addition of the Indochinese box turtles, it can been assumed Jagat Satwa had already have multiple species on mind to be put on display. This species of turtles are listed in their website for a long time, so it can be assumed that most, if not all, of the species here are other than obviously being present on display, are either off-display or are planned to be added, supported with the addition of the box turtles and the New Guinea crocodile as well.

Ruang Belajar - Jagat Satwa Nusantara

The animals that aren't currently on-display but are listed, include (Excluding species that have already been put on-display before that I'm aware of, but currently aren't present):

Mammal
A very odd segment, as there is no space for mammals currently in their parks. Though its possible they could also list the collection in Taman Legenda as well, which have a mini zoo.

Some new scaped tanks has been revealed by Bambang Nurdiansyah, the scaper working with the exhibits in Museum Komodo and Dunia Air Tawar. I assumed the rest of the larger tanks will be fully scaped and themed by the end of the year.

One tank, which based its scaping around drowned palm tree leaves, is almost finished though with unconfirmed inhabitants. The second revealed tank apparently will house the aquarium's Mekong giant catfish, which were moved from the small tank outside the former 4D theatre (Which now house the sturgeons). This confirmed that not all the themed tanks will house native fishes, which is great unless they put farm-bred morphs there as well.

Recent video from Dunia Air Tawar shed some light regarding further updates on the aquarium:
  • The indoor pond apparently houses an Alligator snapping turtle. It can be assumed that the massive turtle is the same snapping turtle that is the longtime inhabitant of the aquarium. It does also seems like plan for the pond to house sturgeon appears to be canned or cancelled.
  • The former denison barb tank now houses freshwater angelfish, which were moved from their large tanks that is now scaped and houses African cichlids.
  • The grass carp tank is empty as the carp is moved to the new scaped tanks, its possible that a new fish will replace the carp in its former tank.
  • It's indeed true that the sturgeons have occupied the former Mekong giant catfish tank, while the American paddlefish apparently is housed in the former oscar cichlid tank next door.
  • The aquarium's longtime cave fish has been displayed again in one of the smaller tanks.
  • We got a closer look at some of the newly scaped tank;
    • An Mekong river-themed tank with Mekong giant catfish and clown featherback.
    • An tank housing giant barbs, red-tailed Giant gourami, and grass carp.
    • An African cichlid tanks with a large zebra tilapia and several Malawi cichlids as well as fahaka pufferfish.
    • An tank for Congo tetras.
    • An tank for melanotaenia australis.
    • An tank for albino ember tetras.
    • An tank for an pseudoplatystoma corruscans and leporinus affinis.
    • An mixed South American tank with farm-bred "blackberry" metynnis, metynnis fasciatus, uaru amphiacanthoides, brycon hilarii, chalceus erythrurus, and leporinus affinis

Yesterday, Jagat Satwa Nusantara has received several confiscated animals from BKSDA to be put on their care. These animals were discovered being transported in the Soekarno-Hatta in an attempt to be smuggled overseas.

Government-protected species include Pesquet's parrot, orange-billed lorikeet, Siamese crocodile, and Asian forest tortoise. Non-protected exotic pets that were also confiscated include reticulated python ("calico" morph), rhinoceros iguana, Amboina box turtle, and unspecified softshell turtle.

Another Siamese crocodile for Jagat Satwa? Sweet!
Hoping it might breed with the resident Siamese crocodile

I hope dwarf caimans were housed together with the snapping turtles in the former arapaima pond.

The confiscated crocodile appears to be quite young, in comparison to the rather large and presumebly old crocodile currently on display. Its possible that the confiscated crocodile will be keep off-display.

Siamese crocodile are quite rare in Indonesian facilities especially grown-sized one, I'm suprised Jagat Satwa Nusantara and Surabaya were able to acquire them (Albeit the former having to acquire the individual with jaws deformity). Though I assumed the adult Siamese crocodiles in Indonesian zoos came from specific farms that I'm not quite aware of.

I see. Could've used the former albino crocodile exhibit, but from a video I saw recently it now houses a piebald saltwater crocodile.

Additional updates has occured in the Museum Komodo as well;

  • The gecko vivarium has been inhabited again after a while, this time only confirmed to house gehyra vorax.
  • A pair of yellow-footed tortoise has been put on display, taking over the former leopard tortoise exhibit as they were moved to the former Forsten's tortoise exhibit.
  • An Chinese pond turtle has been displayed in the Wallacean box turtle and spiny turtle exhibit. This species is previously kept pre-Jagat Satwa in the nursery that are visible for guest.
  • An chelodina parkeri has been displayed in the former elseya branderhorsti exhibit.

  • The eastern cattle egret, black swan, mandarin duck, and Sunda teal has been displayed in the East Dome walkthrough aviary.
  • A large group of sun conure has been displayed in the smaller walkthrough aviary in the East Dome.

This should be all, which include all that are part of the same brand (Jagat Satwa Nusantara). Taman Legenda Keong Emas, which is an theme park and not part of Jagat Satwa Nusantara, have a small petting zoo.

I visited all 3 remaining zoological attractions at Taman Mini Indah Indonesia in August. They are on the same enormous site, but individual in that they have separate entrance fees. As you noted, the museum is closed and the second one on your list (Insects) does not have any live displays. I toured the building (it's free) and it's still open to the public as an Insect Museum, but it's not really worth more than 20 minutes of one's time unless someone was an entomologist.

I did the Aquarium and it's pretty scruffy in places and lacking signage, with more of a college aquarium feel to it with dark rooms, standard tanks and not many adventurous displays. Parts are currently under construction and the big walk-through zone is pretty sparse and currently has zero birds.

The Reptile Park is excellent, with many above-average outdoor exhibits and a Komodo Dragon shaped main building.

The Bird Park is equally very impressive, with a couple of massive walk-through aviaries.

Are you sure you didn't miss anything? There was an butterfly walkthrough (Which was indeed scarcely populated), an stick insest exhibit, and an separate, unsigned butterfly aviary during my January visit. If these weren't there during your visit, I'm afraid they have been demolished.

The museum being "free" isn't entirely accurate :p

The Insect Museum have the same management as the Dunia Air Tawar aquarium. So, if you bought the ticket for DAT, you technicaly also buy a ticket to go to the Insect Museum.

What you meant by "walk-through zone" is the indoor waterfall pond area after the pirarucu skeleton display, right? If I don't miss anything, DAT have no plan to have birds in their collection.

There was an area at the rear that was all closed down next to the Insect Museum, a big pile of garbage on the side of the building, and I don't recall any 'butterfly aviary' or stick insect display. There was also zero staff members and it was easy to just walk in unsupervised. Every other building had workers, so this place felt abandoned.

Yes, I was referring to the indoor pond area inside the Aquarium and it seems a shame to be empty. Small birds would be perfect in there.

It does seems like the Museum will respect its namesake for now. The place itself isn't really that well taken care off before and after the rebranding, hence that abandoned vibe. That closed-off area should be the former small mammal area before the rebranding that used to have e Java mouse-deer and other small mammals. The area and the animals are incredibly neglected so I'm glad that it were presumebly demolished.

It was implied that they are plans for Jagat Satwa Nusantara to have binturongs and their website also listed Javan muntjac (The small mammal area's former inhabitant) and alpaca. Where they plan to display them are yet to be seen.

Last time I was there the stick insects weren't exactly in the best condition, with most of them dead or dying. As you said, the butterfly aviary was very scarcely populated.
