Mixed species exhibit ideas

Brilliant I’ll add this idea to my zoo plan. I’m guessing the orangutans and gibbons are safe together? And small birds flying around won’t cause to much trouble?

Primates might prey on birds and/or their eggs. For larger birds the ropes and climbing structures could be a potentially dangerous obstacle during flight.

I think the mix with birds makes things unnecessarily complicated, and the climbing structures above the sun bears are something that will go well - until it doesn't. However the gibbon, orangutan and tapir mix does seem a reasonable idea to me.

I’ll get rid of the birds then. Thanks.

Will this work?
  • Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris)
  • Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina)
  • Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)
  • Yellowtail (Seriola dorsalis)
  • Opaleye (Girella nigricans)

Could mandrills and siatunga antelope work, in a larger 1/2 forested/meadow like exhibit with a water barrier the antelopes would have access to? I know Bioparc Valencia mixes Drills with siatunga, plus Pygmy hippos, talapoins, Egyptian Geese, and pelicans. Was thinking something similar to Bronx’s Gelada/Ibex exhibit but designed after a forest wetland instead.

It should be fine, but the antelopes should be separated if/when breeding. Also make sure to give both species some space to get away from each other

Would a mix of Indian rhinoceros work with Malayan tapir, Blackbuck and Javan rusa work out? Also, would the Blackbuck and/or Javan rusa work with Domestic water buffalo?

Not sure about Malayan tapir in here, but the other two mixes should work just fine

I don't see rhinos and tapirs getting along.

But the mix of the deer and blackbuck with the rhinoceros or the tapirs, and the mix of the blackbuck and the deer with domestic water buffaloes, could work given enough space and places for the blackbuck and deer to get away from the larger animals.

I think they can get along, if given enough space for all the antelope, because kudus can sometimes have a temper.

What possible combinations could be made with the following list of birds, and would Japanese Sika be suitable to be included in any mixes?
  • Grey-winged Blackbird
  • Elliot's Pheasant
  • Mountain Peacock-Pheasant
  • Himalayan Monal
  • Black-necked Crane
  • Chinese Hwamei
  • Bar-headed Goose
Also, could I mix Takin (specifically Golden or Mishmi) with Markhor and/or Red Panda?

I think Elliot's Pheasant, Black-necked Crane and Bar-headed Goose would work with the Japanese Sika. (ducks, herons and egrets could be add)

Monal pheasants are known to be very aggressive, even to larger birds. They should not be mixed with other pheasants. Japanese sika deer could be mixed with the cranes and the ducks and/or geese, or with the pheasants, probably best with a separate area for these ground-dwelling birds provided.

The gallery has a few exhibits where takins are mixed with markhors, though they all seem to very large set-ups.

Mixing takins with red pandas does not seem impossible from an animal compatibility standpoint, but there could be some difficulties in getting an exhibit large enough for takins to be entirely able to contain notorious escape artists like red pandas.

Would the blackbird and/or hwamei fit into either of these mixes?
