North American Masai Giraffe Population

According to Disney, they are now down to 8 giraffes in total, including the new calf. Tucker, Twiga, Mara, Kenya, Maple, Willow and Aella are all confirmed alive, however that still leaves one individual and means 5 of the giraffes have left the facility or passed away since the last population update.
I’m curious as to who else is left and what happened to the other 5 animals, though it’s likely George and his two sons moved out as was previously planned.

Assuming that George and his two sons left, this would leave Stephanie (17), Lily (16), and Acacia (6) to be the last remaining giraffe there.

In December 2024 they had 11 Masai and 7 generic. I am not aware of any recommended transfers and do not have any additional information.
I don't see any comments about how many they have in the linked article?

In this press release, Dr. Mark says that there are now 8 giraffes.

Sorry if this information is incorrect, it just appeared to be referenced multiple times including by the veterinarian.
 
Regarding the 11 Masai Giraffes stated in the SSP statement at the time, it’s important to remember that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park maintains the majority at eight individuals. As for the remaining three (which I assume are George and company), they should be on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, which the statement must’ve combined the two facilities together; hence, the provided numbers.

June 2025 Update
Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting a population list update in quite some time, as I have been quite busy this year with college and life in general. But I am back and as expected, there have been a number of population changes and updates since my last thread update. However, 2024 and 2025 (thus far) have been slower years in terms of population changes when compared to previous years. Anyway, without further ado, let us get started! There have been a total of 10 births, 13 transfers, and 9 deaths since the previous thread update. Please enjoy and as always, let me know if I have made any errors.

1.0 “Parker Junior” at Seneca Park Zoo passed away on February 17th, 2024 at just 3 months old due to an apparent seizure. He was survived by his two half-siblings and numerous extended family members.

1.0 “Humphrey” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom passed away on May 27th, 2024 at the age of 2 due to unknown health reasons. He is survived by a number of half-siblings, his parents, and extended family members.

0.1 “Audrey” at Santa Barbara Zoo passed away on June 10th, 2024 at the age of 16 due to age-related health issues. She gave birth to a total of 7 calves during her lifetime and left behind a decent number of descendants.

1.0 “Matumaini” at Toronto Zoo passed away on July 25th, 2024 at the age of 2 due to complications during his castration process.

0.1 “Kipenzi” at Seneca Park Zoo was euthanized on July 30th, 2024 at the age of 7 after losing her battle with cancer. She had two male calves during her lifetime, but unfortunately neither of them survived.

1.0 “Mac” at Racine Zoo was euthanized on November 5th, 2024 at the age of 19 due to age-related health issues. He had no offspring of his own but was survived by his extended family members.

1.0 “Jabari” at Racine Zoo passed away on January 16th, 2025 at the age of 10 due to not being able to stand up after a fall. He had no offspring of his own but was survived by his extended family members.

0.1 “Sox” at the Pittsburgh Zoo passed away on January 17th, 2025 at the age of 17 due to chronic leg bone degradation. She had no offspring of her own but was survived by her extended family members.

0.0.1 calf at the Seneca Park Zoo was euthanized on June 17th, 2025 due to not being able to stand up after birth and was found to be paralyzed in one leg.
