Australasian Red Panda Population

Further details and corrections. Taronga's cubs were born to 0.1 Daiyu (2021) and have been confirmed as 1.1. The cubs were born in December 2023 but the sire is not mentioned. Presumably a new male was transferred in quietly: Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands
Just realised that the sire of these two cubs has not yet been confirmed in this thread. Kyana and Keisho’s sire is Pabu. Pabu and Daiyu were of course not intended to be bred together as they’re father and daughter.

That’s correct. Pabu was on a male contraceptive which failed, leading to him breeding with his daughter.

If there’s intentions of breeding with a female in the future, there’s a reluctance to place the female on contraception; but separation during breeding season (June-August) remains an alternative, which many zoos do.

0.1 Zeya (b. 2021 at Taronga) has been transferred to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary - reported on their social media.
Do you know if 1.0 Pasang (2005) has passed?

There's been no update from the zoo - but he would be twenty years old this year, and Zeya's transfer seems to indicate so ie. space opened up for her acquisition.

Would be good to get confirmation as he hasn't appeared on Currumbin's socials for a while now.

Taronga's 1.1 sibling pair, Keisho and Khyana, have been transferred to Oakvale Wildlife Park. These are the facility's first red pandas - reported on their FB page.
Cool… does anyone know where they came from? I wonder if they will breed? Does this mean they phased out tree kangaroos?
