Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo News 2025

The bull were getting from Racine, 90% sure of it. Female I think yeah is from Cincy.
The female coming from Cincinatti has seemingly been confirmed by visitors from both zoos - so should be accurate.

The news about a bull from Racine is new news to me though. Racine currently only has one bull - Kianga (2003). It would make sense if this pair has received a breeding recommendation at Milwaukee.

Kianga would be a good choice for this specific renovation as well, as Racine has signage acknowledging Kianga prefers being indoors, so he will no doubt make good use of the newly constructed indoor rhinoceros habitat area. There is no indoor viewing at Racine for comparison.
Did Kianga breed with the resident Racine female Timu or not?

NOTA BENE: In all them years I have not seen news of any calves...at Racine, hence a move on is best for both and probably for Timu it may already be too late to breed now...))

I do not think that they ever bred, unfortunately.

Here is the sign about Kianga I mentioned.

Went to the zoo today and it looks like they are in the final stages of opening the new rhino area. The construction walls are down, you are able to walk in front of the giraffes again, as well by the former river hogs exhibit. Even the pathway that leads up to the tigers and red pandas near the camels is open. Hopefully that means the rhinos will be on their way and Happy will have his exhibit deep cleaned soon.

Any pics of the development?

This is fantastic news, I can't wait to see the final result. Things looked pretty good during my visit in September. It'll be exciting to see rhinos back at Milwaukee and what the new indoor exhibit actually looks like, and I'm looking forward even to the chance to walk the new path.

I am visiting the zoo for the first time in the next few weeks and wanting some advice on visiting. How long would you say it takes to tour the entire zoo and what route would you suggest? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.
