My local zoo is Dudley in the westmidlands
it has a wide range of animals but I would like to see
Cougars. Racoon's, koala bears, puma's, scottish wildcats,
gaint panda's, wolves, beavers, golden eagles and other birds of prey and vultures
if only they had the money and space
what would you like to see

Giant Short-Faced Bears, Steller's Sea Cows, Malta Dwarf Elephants, Desmodus draculae, Mourasuchus, Testudo atlas, Purrusaurus, Bambiraptor, Meganeura, Nessie and maybe a Yeti or two...take a pick.

My local Zoo is the Kyabram Fauna park and I'd like them to have more mammals...They already have a large collection of birds and the best native reptile house I've seen. I'd like to see platypus, sugar glider, bilby and rock wallabies.

The list is endless. To start, Giant Panda, Brown Hyena, Aardwolf, African Wild Dogs, jackals of any kind, coyotes, Dingo, Blesbok, Nyala, Blackbuck, Bat-eared Fox, Thomson's Gazelle, Bighorn Sheep, Generuk, Colobus (any), Bonobo, toucans/aracari/toucanet of any kind, Cassowary . . .

Giant Short-Faced Bears, Steller's Sea Cows, Malta Dwarf Elephants, Desmodus draculae, Mourasuchus, Testudo atlas, Purrusaurus, Bambiraptor, Meganeura, Nessie and maybe a Yeti or two...take a pick.

I'd be happy with a few thylacines

As far as im aware dudley don't have a spare ten million quid :D;) ( no offence intended)

and before you get a bashing from some other members, it's not called a koala bear, just a koala, good thread, very similar to what your local zoo is missing

could you also arrange me some paradiseparrots psephotus pulcherrimus or some giants auks. Next to the already mentioned thylacines of course.

@DDcorvus: No problem-if you can get me some of those lovely Mekosuchus crocodiles and one of those Giant Bennu herons...;)

My local Zoo Linton Zoo although it is only 18 acres it does have enough space and a few spare enclosures,
Carnivores i would like to see in them are Dhole's,Sri-Lankan Leopard,Leopard Cat,Fishing Cat and Asiatic Golden Cat.
Primates i would like to see in the Zoo would be Olive Colobus,Black Colobus along with Red Howler Monkeys which would be a good contrast to the allready excellent Lemur and Tamarin Collection.
Just trying to keep it midly realistic and what would go well with the Zoo ;)

I'd be ecstatic if my home zoo aquired soemthing small an unusual like St Lucia Parrots, malagasy jumping giant rats, loris' or livingstones fruit bat. never mind elephants and lions!

The closest zoo to me would probably be the Cotswold Wildlife Park. It already has many species that I would have wanted. and when I heard they were getting a Wolverine it took one more animal off my list.
So my list would be at the minute would be:-
-African Harrier Hawks (Gymnogene)
-Fossa
-Giant anteater or Tarmandua
-Platypus (I can dream)
-the Great Hornbill's back. (I think it said they have been taken to Edinburgh)
-Toco Toucan
-Harpy Eagle
-Andean Condor
-Some sort of Civet would be interesting
-Wondering albatross
-Lammergeier
-Kakapo
-Kiwi
-A couple of Thompson Gazelle to go around the large enclosure the zebra and rhino are

That's probably all for the moment =P
I'm liking a fair few of the animals you listed Dalek. Philippine crocodiles would be amazing, as would most of those birds.
Foz I agree, forget the lions and elephants, get the more unusual animals in

Thanks. I certainly agree to small and rare, but there's so many buzzing around my head I couldn't grab them all to put them down. Some others I can think that I'd like to see at Marwell are Dusky Langurs, Livingstone's flying foxes, Mountain Chickens and Long-Nosed Potoroos. :)

many of those species could return in the future

My local Zoo is Banham Zoo and they haven't had any new notable species arrive in the past 10 years except Giraffes. I will go for the the more realistic route which I can see has had few travellers so far. Lol. Right, thinking about where to put them aswell... I would like to see...

1. Common River Hippos or Pygmy Hippos - they could go into the large pond opposite the Formosan Sika Deer and Prairie Marmot exhibit. Move the Red Breasted and Bar Headed Geese onto the moat/pond of the Woodland Walk. Would need to check the gradient of land surrounding the pond to see if it can cater for Hippos.

2. Move the Grevy's Zebra to live with the Giraffes and put Okapis in the current Grevy's Zebra enclosure and get more Zebras.

3. Put the Mongolian Sheep back in with the Bactrian Camels and put maybe Tapirs, preferably Malayan Tapir where the Sheep came from. If Brazilian Tapirs, also put a pair of Capybara in there. (would need to build pool/wallow for capybara). Or maybe Babirusa?

4. Add a lot more species of waterfowl into the moat/pond of the Woodland Walk. I suggest the likes of Puna Teal, Coscoroba Swan, White-Faced Whistling Duck (move the current ones from the Crested Screamer enclosure and get some more), Fulvous Tree Duck (move the current ones from the Scarlet Ibis enclosure and get some more), Red Crested Pochard, Carolina Wood Duck, European Shelduck, Bar Headed Geese and Red Breasted Geese (from Formosan Sika Deer enclosure) and Ruddy Shelduck etc. etc.

5. Move the Black-Necked Swans out of their exhibit and put some Agouti or something of a similar size in there.

6. Now that the White-Faced Whistling Ducks are on the Woodland Walk moat/pond (according to this plan atleast) I would put some Roseate Spoonbills in with the Crested Screamer and Sun Conures.

7. Now that the Fulvous Tree Ducks are on the Woodland Walk moat/pond (according to this plan atleast) I would put three more European Eiders in the Scarlet Ibis enclosure to live with the other three that are in there.

8. Banham Zoo currently have a fair amount of 'single species' birds, i.e. only one of a specific species. Birds that are included in this are the Red-Crested Turaco, Victoria Crowned Pigeon, Kookaburra, Temminck's Tragopan, Crested Screamer, Emu and all of their Hornbill species. So... I would get each of these a mate, the only problem with this is the Emus who would need to live separate lives from each other except from the breeding season of course.

9. Acquire some sort of Pelican species for the Woodland Walk Moat/Pond. Fence off some of the moat/pond for them as they may be tempted to eat Ducklings of wildfowl on there. I would like to see Brown Pelicans however i think that White Pelicans would be more popular (with the bright yellow bill) and would show up more in the dappled shade created by the trees.

10. There are various spaces throughout the Zoo where they could build enclosures big enough for different species of Crane. That would be nice.

Now for the less sensible but not-too-over-the-top pathway...

1. Elephants - not enough space without major, major landscaping renovations.

2. Aquarium House - as above.

3. African Paddock (including Rhino, Giraffe [already got], Zebra [already got] and maybe Blesbok?) - would need to greatly extend Giraffe Paddock which means getting rid of the Suffolk Punches which are far too valuable.

The list could almost literally go on forever!!
