Chester Zoo visit 13/2/10

May need a clue as to where you're visiting! :D

ah yes... sorry. chester

No worries - easily done! Would be interested to know how the Tropical Realm and Islands in Danger alterations are going.

Could you find out wheather Iblis the new lion has arrived yet please and if not when is he expected? (btw if he has arrived he probably won't be on show yet)

It says on the website that tropical realm changes are complete - part of the reason i'm visiting

it also talks about a new mongoose enclosure?

The new Mongoose exibit is just Marmot Mania renamed Mongoose Mania and the marmots replaced by mongoose.

In which case, some photos and a species list'd be great! :)

I think that Marmot Mania was to be converted for Dwarf Mongooses, but could be wrong.

Yes definatly some pics of the new developments in the Tropical Realm, ive been 5 times and seen empty enclosure so i must see it completed.

Aswell any information on Ilbis would be appreciated.

(Marmot Mania to Mongoose Mania :( Not that i dont like mongoose yet where are the Marmots going, hopefully not off show)

Thanks, I know Im a bit late but Maguari and Stripes have already asked the questions in which i seek the answers too. :)

My question is if Tunga (6 year old bull elephant) is still with the herd. If not, is he alone or with Upali?

Thanks!

i am afraid that as i had already set off by the time they posted, i haven't got the answer to midlan and yassa's questions.

my camera started playing up, and i'm sorry to say i have no pictures

- Mongoose mania is not yet complete. The marmots were not on show anywhere.
- I finally saw the young male Komodo Dragon in Islands in Danger (the son of Flora). Flora was very active.
- The iguana area in I.I.D seems to be just about done. It is split into three sections, one with a desert theme, one with a waterfall, and one with lots of foliage.
- Iblis has not yet arrived.
- Tropical realm is not quite finished, but here is a reptile list
Tuatara, Gila Monsters, Radiated Tortoises and Galapagos Tortoises stay in the same exhibits.
Then there is a large Radiated Tortoise enclosure.
Two large, empty glass tanks which i guess would hold snakes.
New insect/frog enclosures, with Salmon Pink Bird-Eating Spiders, Flower Beetles and Death's head cockroaches. all other tanks are empty.
There are then enclosures for Beaded Lizards, Caiman Lizards, and Mixed exhibit of mangrove snakes and red eyed tree frogs.
- The visayan warty pigs by the bat cave have three piglets.

and that's all!

How is Asha doing and did you get any infomation as to when Iblis is finally expected?

How is Iblis pronounced by the way?

Ooh now this is pleasing about the Mongooses. I was concerned really that they would be leaving, so glad to know they're staying.
Im thinking of visiting tomorrow. It's been a few months, and im sure some of you have noticed, theres a large essay of questions that'll need answering after I visit :P

Right just a few updates from what I saw at Chester to day the 2 new glass exhibits in the Tropical Realm are not empty as the largest Houses Splendid Leaf Frogs and the small one houses Blue dart Frog,at the moment they are not labelled. On top of this the Radiated Tortoise have moved into the new Tortoise enclosure, while the Galapagos Tortoise now have both there old enclosure and what used to house the Radiateds.
Also the Iguanas in Islands in Danger should be on-show next week, and the new Male Asiatic Lion should arrive next week as well.
Also only saw the male Sealion!

Oops - that's me just noting down whatever the signs say and maybe not looking hard enough... i guess i wasn't looking for frogs

Thats why I always look in what may even look like an empty enclosure, just in case something is in it!

I did indeed managae a visit earlier today. Nothing huge to report other than what has already been said.
One or two interesting changes with the birds mainly, namely that the Green Cheeked Amazon Parrots have moved in with the Lilacines up at the Rare Parrot Breeding Centre. Barbets no longer at the African Aviary either.
Quite a lot of empty enclosures. At least 2 Owl aviarys, the old Tree Shrew enclosure and the Pied Tamarin enclosure.
Tropical Realm's reptiles actually looks much nicer than expected. Tortoise area could do with a few more additions though.
A good visit on the whole. Only major no-shows were the Anoa, Babirusa, Indian Rhino, Bears, Lion Tamarins and the occasional bird species. Managed to see a whopping 5 Bush Dogs, and im usually over the moon to see just the one! Finally saw some Coatis at the Bear enclosure aswell.
You'll be pleased to hear I have no major questions other than whats happening with the Pied Tamarins. Oh and the Turacos/Go Away Birds at the Arara Aviaries aswell, they were empty except for a Monal and a Crestless Fireback - and no one was signed. Not next for the chop are they, these aviaries?

Arara Aviaries???? I visit the zoo once or twice a month yet i do not know what the Arar Aviaries are???

Edit: Question to ZooMania by the way, aswell im sorry but i do not recognise the species either, please tell me where the Arara Aviaries are???
