Chester Zoo New site

I don't like the terms and conditions of the use of photos. If I am reading it correctly, by uploading a photograph to the zoo website, the NEZS claim all rights to the image (including any future reproduction), and also have made it clear they do not intend to pay a single penny in fees. Furthurmore the photographer will have to gain the zoo's permission to use his own work, no doubt they will charge a hefty sum for this right. This seems rather unfair.

The search menu is not working.

The new Chester Zoo site does indeed look impressive, and has a much better layout than the previous site.

The new site looks great and is easy to follow, the picture of the Jaguar is stunning

It seems as though apart from the online shop and the ability to upload photos, the changes are largely cosmetic. To be honest, I didn't think there was too much wrong with the old site in that respect.

Another thing that's not working yet is the zoo map - though there are bound to be teething troubles with a new site.

I really hope they put a bit more effort into the news section now (which has become basically a marketing section for zoo events). More animal news please - if they only put half the animal news we get here on Zoobeat it will be a huge improvement!

If thats the much talked about new website from the A.G.M then they`ve not worked over time to complete its not that much of an improvement from the old one.

Just a bit of an error in the fish section somebody got their Blind Cave Fish species mixed up the link says Omani the write of the page is on the Mexican, not very professional for a zoo like Chester.

I agree totally with your comments regarding the news section. Also the same information is often reproduced word for word in the zoo magazine. If Chester does want to become regarded as the UK's premier collection it would be nice if they paid more attention to the animal side of things.

Cotswold has a much better animal news service. Births and arrivals are listed even though the public may not know what a Jaguarundi is, the users of this site most certainly will.

I expect the Chester site is run by staff with little knowledge of animals, and I do not mean that as an insult. These people are excellent at PR. Just look at the increased media coverage and visitor numbers.

The site finally worked for me! yay!

As an IT student, the site is vastly superior to its predeccessor. It is more accessible and is presented in a much better format and layout. The content could be more in-depth though.

I'm impressed by the information about exhibits and this section also contains some information about the individual animals (Bornean Orangs), which i think is important for a zoo website.

Here, here! Well said.. You can say the same for virtually every zoo's website nowadays, there's been a huge shift away from reporting anything except the most notable animal news.

Does anyone know what this animal is? It's really bugging me as I thought I knew every animal at Chester!

I don't think so. It looks sort of foxy but the only canines they have at the zoo now are bush dogs and it's not one of those

I agree that it's a red panda.

Has to be a red mammal. The zoo only has pandas, hogs, orangs and lechwe that into this slot.
