More detailed info attached of the plans for YWP, including the new big cat house, hoofstock housing and the raised walkway.

Work has already started and should all be up and running later this year.

Thanks for these plans!
Hopefully they can pull something good off like lion country and I really do think they will-very excited for my local zoo!

The plans are very exciting. It's great to have such a dynamic collection so close by.

Excellent to see a new zoo pushing on; however, do not think these buildings will feature on Toddy's thread about cutting-edge architecture in European zoos. This is neither good nor bad, I hasten to add!

Do we know which species will feature within these developments?

I think the hoofstock housing is just for the species currently on the African plains. Maybe more species will be added to the current African plains group of zebra, ostrich, emu, ankole, lechwe and sitatunga.

I've heard rumors of giraffe for Y.W.P. I wish there was dimensions on this hoofstock house to see if it was suitable.

They do hope to get giraffe either this year or next. Maybe the house will be sized up in anticipation.

I guess the tiger house is based on the current lion house.

I'm sure SMR will be delighted to see the waterfall :p

having read the rest of the planning documents it states the hoofstock shed will be used for "existing and new stock" and as a foodstore.

However there has been plenty of talk of giraffes for a while around the park so wouldn't be surprised, especially as it mentions a new enclosure as well.

Within the written part of the planning documents it states it'll be "30 metres long & 20 metres wide, and the maximum height of the enclosure will be 7.4 metres". The only other thing to go on would be the size of the doors on the drawing in comparison with the overall height of it. If that's anything to go by it would seem tall enough. There is another drawing of the floor plan but it's very basic and doesn't really give much away.

Apparently they are getting a giraffe soon! Not sure if this means just 1 or if it was just a casually phrased comment!

Maybe their taking Bo or Walda from South Lakes to make room for the other 2 female's arriving shortly!

Bo has been confirmed as going to Knowsley's batchelor herd and Walda will become a breeding male at Fota in Ireland. There is a third hybrid male who's location has yet to be confrimed though (although there's two existing batchelor herds in the South that he could join)

Look's like we can rule Banham's elderly male tiger out. YWP have got approval from the EEP and studbook to house at least one (if not two! the article isn't paticually clear on how many they will be getting) breeding pair/s of Amur Tiger. They are exptected to arrive in the spring

Very good news. The place and its animal collection are expanding in leaps and bounds now.

This is exciting news indeed! I was definitely told non-breeding tigers a few weeks ago so I'm thrilled by this development.

What exciting news. Two pairs would be even better, tho I'd be surprised if it is 2 pairs.

Brilliant that YWP has decide to make two enclosures for tigers. Possibly a reason why YWP is being given breeding stock straight away. This will be a great help to the Amur Tiger studbook holder as well.
