Chester Zoo webcams!

Just incase anybody was interested the zoo have asked people on their Facebook page if they could have a webcam installed in any enclosure what would it be. At the moment it seems the most popular are Lion & Tigers with Elephants, Apes and Red Panda's getting a few mentions.

I think an aviary-cam would be a good idea - with species like lions and tigers I can imagine the screen would be blank for some time. With an aviary, there are always going to be birds flying around. Obviously, Europe on the Edge would be a good choice.

I think any camera in Europe on the Edge would run the risk of being a snack for one of the Vultures :P

Nice idea Haz_Cat :)

As for the Europe on the Edge, never thought about that, though if it could be done I would love to see it :D

On the subject of the chimps, a couple of weeks ago they were out just after 8am enjoying their breakfast, so even if the zoo isn't open to the public, there'd still be something to see on a webcam.

I think the chimps can go out if they want, I think I was told they've been seen out as late as midnight but probably don't sleep outside.

Facebook, where high standards of grammar and zoological knowledge abound.

My particular favourite is the suggestion for a "birds of pray" webcam, but the collection will need monk vultures first. ;)

Aegypius monachus, the monk vulture is already in the zoo SMR. And don't forget the cardinal in the Tropical Realm.

Well my vote would be chimpcam or orangcam - tho they'd need to be tough :)

...Or actually I might go for conservation golfcam :p

Urgh, these bird names, Eurasian black vulture, of course.

Serious suggestion - much as I like bamboo-cam given that one could follow its invasion throughout the zoo - would be buffy-headed capuchin because they're always an active and entertaining species.

Oh, and Oakfield-cam, so that visitors know when the bloomin' place is open without having to walk all the way over there.

I want one in every black rhino house, then the zoo would not be able to move them around without us noticing.

This was posted a few hours ago from the checkitlive twitter account.

"The guys are at Chester Zoo today installing two new Penguin Cameras"

Im guessing that this will be some of the new cameras mentioned by the zoo would also assume that the two would be under water and above water.

It's not hard to figure out where the webcams will be, just wander around looking for newly erected posts in strange locations. The one that's currently live for the penguins is hiding behind the conifer on the corner of the exhibit nearest the monorail.
