Female Tisa ex Koeln Zoo has 5/8/2008 arrived at Doue la Fontaine in France. Here, she will be paired up with Kata Kata and Jeremy. Doue now has 2 pairs of which the young female Binti ex Zoo Berlin may be maturing in the next year too.

Apparently, a new transfer is on the cards in Chester too. Male Quinto out or another in (re comments on Tsavo 1/2 in Chester threads). Will investigate!

I hope its Quinto out.. either to Port Lympne or Europe. Chester have their two other bulls, both now proven and both unrelated to all four females- more than sufficient ratio.

As far as I know, the crate was in Quinto's pen (as I have stroked him in there) however they may have been crate-training Sammy for his return to Tsavo 1 when the calf has been born. I can't see Rosie being sent away (they are the only 3 rhinos in the Tsavo 2 compex)

Am confused as to why they would need to crate train him? All the outdoor paddocks are interlinked, yes it my take a little while for them to get him back but am sure a tasted treat would do the trick for him.

How recently did you stroke Quinton in there, as last summer i was in tsavo 2 and quinto was in the middle indoor enclosure which leads onto the outdoor paddock that does not have the crate in, the crate is in rosie's outdoor paddock (well it was rosie's paddock last summer, they may have swapped them round since then but i doubt it)

It was 2 years ago, so from the sounds of it, they have been swapped around since then.

So it is:

Paddock one (the one which can be seen from the meerkats): Sammy
Paddock two (middle): Quinto
Paddock three (viewable from the road leading to the car park): Rosie

It may just be that Rosie is moved to one of the old accomodations and then one of the pregnant rhinos moves to Tsavo 2, rather than a rhino leaving the collection.

Yes that was right when i was there but there are only two outdoor paddocks, i think they alternate sammi and quinto in one, but that's a guess, they may have swapped them all around again though. I was hoping they were sending rosie away and getting a 'nicer' female in to breed, who knows

There is definately three paddocks (you can see from the satellite map on zoobeat).

I think we'll just have to wait for more news to break regarding the situation (on the off-chance, are there any other reasons why there would be a crate in an exhibit? Perhaps we are overthinking things here...)

Sorry, i don't know why I though there were only two, either way the crate is still in rosie's paddock, or what was rosie's paddock, wait and see

On ISIS chester are listed as having 3.3, how long has this been the case as last I knew they had 3.4. Has ISIS just got it wrong, or has one left the collection (possibly rosie due to crate in paddock)

The ISIS figures are incorrect for Chester (= 3.4 at the moment), Doue la Fontaine (= 2.2 after arrival of cow Tisa ex Koeln Zoo), Dvur Kralove (=6.9), Krefeld (=2.1 with the 1.0 birth not listed) and Zuerich (= 1.2 at the moment).

On another planned transfer: cow Malindi (b. November 2005 in Magdeburg Zoo) is due to transfer in September 2008 to Chester Zoo. :)

I expect Quinto some time to be relocated to Port Lympne in the short term and long term to Dvur Kralove for intensive breeding (but I have not yet received any info). Perhaps they will also start trying for AI with cow Rosie to have her genes expressed in the population.

Quick Rhino update-

Magadi is with Manyara
Sammy is with Kitani
Asani is with Malindi
Bashira is with Ema(?)
Rosie departed for Port Lympe
Zuri arrived from Paignton
Can anybody else confirm who is with who?

Well this will be wrong by the weekend now as the zoo will move them now, that somebody has listed whos with who!:p

Zuri is a little gem. Well maybe no so little. Looking forward to seeing her in her new home in 4 weeks time.

ZG,I got this information from a keeper at Chester Zoo when I visited(11/06/11)at the Rhino talk.

Still may well be wrong by the weekend! Chester's Black Rhino complex is specifically designed to let them swap animals around regularly.

So why list it as an 'update', suggesting permanence, rather than, if you must list them, just 'on the day I visited'. ;)

We're OK as long as one doesn't end up with nowhere to sit when the music stops!
