Can anyone tell me if the black Jaguar ever goes outside? In all my visits to the zoo I have only seen it twice indoors and it is very difficult to get a decent photograph.

He doesn't at present, there was some talk of possibly letting him but I don't know if the decision was finally made.

Chester has spectacled caiman for the first time in over 40 years.

This is from the newsletter: "We've loads of really exciting new arrivals for you to visit this half term, including zebras, Spectacled Caiman crocodiles, four beautiful cheetah cubs and our Giant anteaters in their new enclosure.

And don't forget our two new lionesses, who are keeping our male lion, Iblis, on his toes!"

Chester achieved gold, raising a brilliant 14,000 Euros, towards the EAZA Ape Campaign:

Gold Award for our EAZA Ape Campaign Efforts | Chester Zoo UK

So am I, I had to pay to see the apes I don't like.

see I don't understand the whole 'disliking' certain animals thing, I genuinely have a passion for all forms of wildlife so I would never say I didn't like the Apes or I only wanted to see the big cats, I find all animals and their interactions interesting - OK the lizards don't do much in terms of a dynamic exhibit - But their ecology and husbandry is fascinating in it's own right.
:)

I'm with you kc, there's nothing I wouldn't do a walk & talk on because I find everything potentially fascinating.

But you did have the distinct pleasure of meeting me on that day Rob :P

That's true.

My comment about not liking apes was not meant to be serious, I was at Twycross three weeks ago looking at gorillas and bonobos.

I enjoyed behind the scenes in RoRA.

See, I'd say lizards were far more interesting than apes! :D

I wouldn't say I didn't like great apes, but they're by far the animal group I have least interest in.

For the first part, I agree :D

For the second, I think this is more what Bongorob meant with his comment. I too like all types of animals, but with me apes is a very mixed bag. I like most of them, but if somebody said 'list your fave zoo animals in order,' chimps would come out bottom :p

oh hell what have I started :O)

the humour in your post bypassed me Rob - I'll concentrate harder next time :O)

I honestly don't have a list of favorite animals - yes those who know me are aware that if I don't get my regular Cheetah fix I get very grouchy but I spend just as long with other species - less so with homo sapiens to be honest but that's often by design!!

Glad it's not just me that isn't keen on chimps. To be honest I will admit to not actually liking them that much, I find them fascinating as a creature, but I am not keen on them, maybe they are too much like me/us...

I'm taking the 'Chester Season Ticket Plunge' this year in a few weeks, I normally visit every 9 months or so, but I am going to give the place a chance to grow on me again (I used to love it as child, then went off it in my early 20's). Even if it doesn't grow on me too much I can still at least always spend a few hours in the Tropical Realm watching and listening to all the birds. And the members only days sound like they are worth a go at....

I am also not one for chimp's but my excuse is they remind me of me many, many, many, many years ago could it be the same for everyone else.
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha
