MIdas went to Moscow Zoo. He was born in 1993.
Damisi is still here. They haven't been told anything about a move yet.
The Red Crowned Cranes have hatched a chick.
Giraffes Two females are ready to leave Poland but they have to find a way round the Blue Tongue zones as they obviously have nowhere to keep them in quarantine. All these quarantine laws make you wonder if zoos are going to end up with more animals off show than on show!

Gigit. Are the other four Gorillas- Pertinax, Kumbuka and the two small ones, living as a group? You mentioned before they will receive two more small ones once Mapema & Damisi were gone- so I guess apart from Damisi having to be alone, they can't bring any more in until he is gone... I can't see any reason for a continued hold up now if Chessington have fulfilled their side of the 'deal' (which seems to be what it was- let a female go or you can't have this new male...)

... none. They lost the last pair(+ a week old calf) in a fire and have since had one new bull. They have been awaiting females to join him for a long time now.

Gigit- How long is it since they received the bull giraffe? Has he a name?

GorillasYes, Damisi is alone and the others live as a group. I think Crocodile Swamp has priority over everything else at the moment and once it's open they'll be able to think about Damisi etc. Fingers crossed!
Giraffe Yoda arrived in September 2006. He was born in Givskud Zoo in Denmark on 14 November 2004.

Good advice! I'm keen to visit Crocodile Swamp but if there's a chance that the pythons might escape, maybe it'll be better to wait a few days ;)

A female Hartmann's Mountain zebra arrived from Germany today.
Apparently when the new male Allen's Swamp Monkey was let outside, he sat on the electric fence, unaffected, (but maybe with his hair standing on end?!) and that's why he's not been outside again.

Maybe they need to turn the voltage up a bit- he only needs a decent shock once or twice and he shouldn't go near it again. I don't want to hear he has to live indoors permanently because of this...:(

Hopefully it'll be one of the things that get sorted out now that Crocodile Swamp is open.

Allen's Swamp Monkey one of the original females died so they have 1.2 now. They are trying to encourage the male and new female to go outside again but he's been reluctant.
Damisi still here - no news.

Damisi

Damisi is being crate trained again. He could be going to Chessington in 2 weeks - but nobody's holding their breath.

I've looked in several 1980s guide books for Marwell and there is no mention of American Bison. However this does not prove that they never had any, but I agree with you Pertinax, I can't remember hearing of Marwell keeping them.

yes i have an old guide book and there is mention of european bison in the middle of the book!

sadly there is no publishing date in the book but i guess is over 20 years old!

I think Bongorob was saying that there was no evidence of American Bison. I'm sure Pertinax posted earlier that they had definately kept Wisent (aka European Bison).
