Right seeing as we are now into 2012,thought it was about time we started a news thread for things we spot going round Chester for this year. The only thing that I spotted that was new today was the first species other than Jaguars is now on-show in the Jaguar House, although 99% of the visitor were walking past after reading the sign that said the exhibit was still empty, but I can safely say that the Leaf-cutter Ant colony is back in the Zoo!

Countdown to the first escape attempt starts now! ;)

Maybe they've already escaped from the place they were being held into the 'still empty' exhibit ;)

Went this morning tiger cubs off show having their jabs will try again tomm
Did have nice views of the cheetah cubs
Pele was out too:)

Tigers are fine there just off-show because of the following statement:

Our tigers have recently been off show to enable us to carry out some maintenance work on their enclosure. As we already have the cubs inside, we now have the ideal opportunity to be able to give them their second round of routine vaccinations. Unfortunately, this means they will remain off show for a short while.

Thanks for your understanding.

The zoo are just taking the opportunity of having them all inside to give them their second round of routine vaccinations according to their facebook page. This is no cause for concern, just having the jabs that all cats have as youngsters to prevent illness [and just like humans having jabs like BCG, meningitis and tetnis shots].

Wonder how outdoor-girl Kirana is taking all this confinement, the sacrifices you have to make for kids!

Thanks thats a relief was getting a bit worried:)
as long as they are OK :)
Fabi looked like he was getting a bit wound up pacing up and down but all will be back to normal soon!

I've not heard anything about the EAZA fundraising this year. I'm sure by this time last year we were getting excited about the prospect of Boris blowing raspberries at us through his bedroom door!

I'm sure that if Chester does anything with the members of this site,to raise money for this years EAZA campaign it will be posted, when details are known!!

Personally-speaking, this year I'd like to raise money for something in the zoo. Even if it's only a small addition, it'd be far more tangible and personal.

Mr. Derricott sounds like he's just run over his favourite pet, I'd hate to hear him reporting on bad news.

Babirusa births announced-

Meet one of two rare babirusa piglets - thought to be the first to be born in Europe in over a year.

The duo - who will be on show later in the spring - were born eleven weeks ago to mum Majene and dad Sausu.

That is fantastic news, probably one of the most important recent births they have had!

Check the zoo's Facebook page for the picture.
