Just noticed this excellent piece of news hasn't been posted yet,https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...221308992.63026.184879921566189&type=1&ref=nf

This means that the place has now breed 2 species of Crocodilian,in its very short time being open.
The two species being Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman and West African Dwarf Crocodile,in the case in the West African's they have bred them twice.

The first Cuvier was hatched out on the 3/12/2011

Well they have at long last manged to get the male Black Caiman back in with the female,with out 2 of them trying to kill each other,as for other species that they could breed the only other is the Cuban Crocodiles and Spectacled Caiman,as all the other species are either a single animal,or same sex group,or far to young to breed yet.

No and they haven't been since july last year,at the moment they are being held as 3 singles due them fighting,also they are all females,but there is a chance of swapping atleast one of the females for a male with another collection that has 2 males and 1 female.
 
Will it be a UK first breeding if they bred Siamese Crocodiles,yes it would,because as far as I know the only species that have been bred in the UK are,
American Alligator
Nile Crocodile
West African Dwarf Crocodile
Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman
Spectacled Caiman
Mugger
Morelet's Crocodile

Slightly off topic but ive been reading about partheogensis in sharks. Has their ever been any cases in crocodilians? Has it ever happened in the UK?

Not heard of it in Crocodiles,but given that it can happen in Monitor Lizards it could well be possible,and as for the UK breedings all the ones I know of were natural breedings.

Not heard of any plans for a male to arrive,and yes it was one of the females that was at Cotswold Wildlife park,and just to so you can add her name to your list of animal names at CWP she was known as Fluffy,I'm not sure what she goes as at the Crocodiles of the World,but its not Fluffy!
 
Coming to be into a great place for reptilian afficionados. Good to see some noteworthy breeding results on the back of just being open over 1 year! Would be nice to see other sex swaps for Cubans and Morelett's! If he can get the Siamese to breed that would probably make it a celebration feast this year.

Incidentally, are the Siamese and Cubans pure-breds (there is a nasty habit by some commercial breeders to cross in other crocodilian species in order to improve leather quality (how bizarre that is ...). Also, a Morelett's being called Fluffy, .... fluffy does not come in to it .... given their rather feisty nature. She docile or what??? :D

Yes both the Cubans and the Siamese are pure.

As for Fluffy its the name the owner before Cotswold Wildlife Park,gave her CWP got her because her than owner was a personnal friend of the then head reptile keeper at CWP.

Where and when were the American Alligators and Muggers bred? I thought only eggs but no hatchings had taken place for the American Alligator.

Could be wrong, but have Welsh Mountain ever hatched any American alligator eggs?
