Mixed species exhibits #2

@Orycteropus: Well, it was a bit more than "a few introductory sentences", wasn't it? And I still consider that particular sentence of You in regard to Omaha unnecessary. To extrude = to squeeze/ to press out/ to wring...;) Anyway, Roma locuta, causa finita.
According to my knowledge, jackals and ungulates are not mixed at Vienna Zoo.

@Chlidonias: No problem.

@ Sun Wukong: it is all the same what I say, You will always finding faults.:D
Anyway:"Roma locuta, causa finita ..." ... and St. Agost said further: "utinam finiatur aliquando error ":)

@ Sun Wukong: it is all the same what I say, You will always finding faults.:D

Indeed I do-it was St. Augustine (Sermo 131, 10)'s "Causa finita est - utinam aliquando finiatur error" that was later turned to "Roma locuta, causa finita", aka the equivalent of "over and out"...:p

I calculate for a very similar answer, so I'm not surprised that ...:D

It seems to me that we are talking away the time very well:)

Turning back (just a bit:)) to the thread: Servals at Tierpark Nadermann, again: have You got a photo of this enclosure? Or could You describe how look like its fencing (fence, moat, or glass..etc...)? (yes, I know that Servals are excellent jumpers):) And the Pygmy hippo & Serval combination at Fuengirola? It is succesful?

@Orycteropus: "I calculate for a very similar answer, so I'm not surprised that ..." Yeah, of course You did...

No, I don't have a photo of that enclosure. The whole zoo is actually one of the small, financially rather weak zoos You mentioned before. Therefore, the exhibit (as far I can remember it) is pretty basic (fences & moats); in cases of interspecific aggression, parts of it can be seperated. The monkeys represent the largest number of animals in it.
I haven't been to Fuengirola; from what I have heard, the exhibits there are pretty small and dominated by fake rock scenery.

@Pygathrix: Depends on the monkeys; Douroucoulis might work, although the zoogeographical connection wouldn't be the very best...

:D
Orycteropus - some topics (like keeping of meerkats and other popular but common animals) were talked to death few months ago. Thats why Sun Wukong is getting angry.

@ Sun Wukong: "Yeah, of course You did"... ?;)

@ Jurek7: thanks, it also had been mentioned by Sun Wukong. But I’m a relatively new member. Could You tell me where can I read about it (inside which thread exactly)? I can’t find that … Thanks …

There is a photo on the gallery about Meerkat, Zebra and Lechwe mixed exhibit at Newquay Zoo which had been mentioned previously on this thread. Thanks for Maguari …

@Orycteropus: great, informative article! The pairing of the hamadryas baboons with 5 african elephants was interesting, although the exhibit was described as fairly bare. There were a pile of rocks in the background...

It was interesting to read about the many mixings of tamarins and marmosets with various other species of animal.

@ Zooplantman, snowleopard: :)

@ okapikpr:
I have knowledge some mixing with Zebras & Bongos, but I don’t know exactly that these exhibits exist at present or not. About the mixing:
Caldwell Zoo: Bongo, Zebra, Greater kudu, Impala, Colobuses, cranes, waterfowls.
Milwaukee Zoo: Bongo, Zebra, Greater Kudu, Eland, Waterbuck, Ostrich, Marabou stork, Guinea fowl, African spurred tortoise.

Montgomery Zoo: Bongo, Zebra, Slender-horned gazelle, Greater kudu, Dama gazelle, Gemsbok, Ostrich, cranes, storks, vultures. This later enclosure is about 1,2 hectare. All of the species seem to work well together (but certainly not serious problems with agression behaviour maybe occur, but firstly among the Dama gazelle, Gemsbok and Kudu bull).

But yes, in general there are many problems with Zebras in mixed exhibits.

What about this shot of the Savannah of Emmen Zoo? And you even don't see all species!

Three red river hogs (three sisters) are recently added to the Savannah of Emmen. First the zebras were chasing the sisters. Then the wildebeests began the hunt for the hogs. But except some hunting by the wildebeests, all other species let the three sisters alone.

Species on the Savannah: girafs, ostriches, cranes, waterbucks, zebras, impalas, white rhinos, kudus, red river hogs, wildebeests, Egyptian geese, guineafowl.

And what about this picture of the african exhibit taken today at Prague zoo?

Rappen4.jpg

Sable antelope + Bongo + Beisa + Blesbok + Nile Lechwe + Secretary bird + Southern Ground Hornbill.
A little bit crazzy mix of species, but it works!
