Your fact isn't quite fact there Jordan! Upali is Sundaras father. I should think the number of offspring Upali sires at Chester will increase in the near future.

Dublin's young bull, Budi will leave tomorrow on the outward journey of the transport that Upali comes in on.

We were told at the South East Asia symposium in March that DNA tests showed that Upali is Sundara's father.

Well who is Sundara's father?, I was told when she was born at another respected zoo that Chang was her father, I was told at Chester in all honesty, which I respect, that Chang was her father, I recall my visit to Chester in 2003, Upali, then a juvenile was being target trained, I also recall Sithami and Po Ching outside in the paddock squeezing their way into the bull yard to see their father Chang, and to see him with them both was most memorable, so gentle with them.It was thought, so I was told at Chester, that Sithami was too young to mate at this time, so as I understand it Sundara was an "accident". The result of an accident is usually something unpleasant, that was certainly not the case with little Sundara. It was also touching that when Sundara was born to her mother Sithami at such a young age, Sithami's mother, Thi helped her daughter bring up the baby. So if Chang was Sundara's father, how will she stand in future breeding programmes, will she be included or not?

Well I trust the information I was told by the head elephant keeper in 2012.

Sundara will soon have a new man in her life!

Anyone know the name of the bull who will be going to Chester this year?

Chester Zoo clearly label the names, ages, etc. of their Asian elephants, also the relationship of the animals concerned, i.e. mother/father, two years ago when reading the labels the father of Sundara was omitted, you have now been told that Upali is the father of Sundara,as you have been told at a recent visit, sorry Chester, you are a great zoo, but what is all this business of now claiming that Upali is Sundara's father, when we know he is not. Sundara was fathered by Chang.

It was thought that Chang was the father but the zoo got it wrong, after all they are only human so they can make mistakes just like the rest of us!

So just for the record as has already been stated by others on here Upali is the father of Sundara and not Chang!

Seville currently has seven males at present but having looked at them I have narrowed it down to the potential candidates;

'Maxim' - he's been at Seville for about ten years, he was born at Rotterdam. He was at Port Lympne for a while if I recall.

'Tsje Pyan' - he was born at Emmen (Thiha Phyu x Naing Thein). He has been at Seville for about nine years.

'Maurice' - he was born at La Palmyre (Alix x Chinto). He is eleven years old, the other two are slightly older (13/14 I think).

Thanks Zoogiraffe for confirmed this. I was also pretty certain that Chang was the father but I was wrong so thanks for confirming.

For accuracy - Symposium was April, webpage I looked it up on dated March was advertising it!

I remember seeing Sundara soon after she was born and among the public as well as the usual cooing over the new baby there was quite a lot of 'tutting' and surprise among the more knowing ones about how young her mother 'Sithami' was and the 'surprise' conception with her own 'father'. Meanwhile there was young 'Upali,' the real father, innocently mingling in the group!:)

I can't remember how old Upali was when he fathered Sundara?

I am sure he was only around ten years old at the time, he arrived as a young bull. Upali was born in 1994 or thereabouts.

Not particularly young for a bull to father calves, if given the chance. The Taronga Park(Sydney) Zoo male 'Gung' fathered a calf at considerably younger age.
